Betty's POV

7:34 a.m.

I'm going to be late.

What's wrong with me? I have to show two new kids around school today and I'm going to be late for it.

I take a shower at lightning speed and then run to my closet, trying to figure out what to wear. Oh who am I kidding I'll basically wear the same thing I wore yesterday.

I pull a light pink sweater and blue skinny jeans out of my closet, along with my white flats I wear everyday. I'm in the middle of pulling my hair up in a ponytail when my phone buzzes.

Jonathan: forget something?

I stare at the text from my friend for a good minute as my mind races as to what I forgot before it hits me.

Newspaper meeting.

Me: omg Jonathan I'm so sorry I woke up late and completely spaced it

Jonathan: it's kinda hard to have a two person meeting when only one person shows up lol

I slap my forehead with my palm and curse myself as I continue to get ready.

Me: can we have another meeting at lunch? I have to show some new kids around first thing this morning.

Jonathan: yeah sure

I close my phone and slip on my shoes before running down the stairs to the kitchen, where I find some yogurt which I try to eat quickly but I'm a slow eater so I almost choke myself before deciding to slow down.

After I finish my yogurt I grab my backpack and coat and run out the door.

7:56 a.m. It takes me 10 minutes to drive to school, marking me as officially late.

I curse myself and try to find the courage to drive faster than the speed limit but never find it.

I feel my cheeks burn the whole way to school and when I get there I have to park the farthest place away from the front door, which just feeds my anger more. I grab my backpack from the passenger seat and rush to the school, losing my flat twice on the way. When I get to school Principle Weatherbee and the two new kids are waiting in the office for me. I can feel my face burn a bright red when they all look at me and my late self.

"Elizabeth Cooper," Principle Weatherbee greets me. "Hard time getting out of bed this morning?"

I nod slowly and look at my shoes, still burning bright red.

"Hm," he says before gesturing his hand to the two new kids.

I study both of them. They don't look much like brothers but I know that they are. One's pretty tan with curly hair and the other fair with straight hair, and their facial features don't match up.

"Elizabeth, these our new students, Peter Kavinsky and Peter Parker," Weatherbee explains.

So not brothers or brothers? Same name step brothers? I'm confused.

"This is Elizabeth Cooper," Principle Weatherbee explains to the two boys. "She's a top student here and has never been a day late in her life until now."

Peter Kavinsky (I think) laughs slightly and the other Peter even smiles a little bit.

"She'll show you around today and make sure you get around to all of your classes," Weatherbee explains before dismissing us.
