Kavinsky's POV
When my dad and May told me that we would be moving away from New York to Riverdale I was less than impressed. I loved my life in New York. I could play lacrosse, I had friends, and even a girlfriend; but now that's all gone.
My step-brother (or whatever he is) Peter liked it there too. He went to this huge science school and had all of these science friends and a science girlfriend (which really shocked me that he had one).
The moral of the story is: we both loved New York and now we're sitting in the car for 13 hours to a little town where we all have to start over again.
I glance over at Peter from my side of the car. He has his headphones in and is staring out the window. The way he's pursing his lips makes it look like he has a frog in his mouth. My dad wants me and my little brother Owen to treat Peter like he's been here all of our lives and we try really hard but he's just so....different.
This whole scenario is weird: one day I'm living with my mom and Owen and the next day my mom's dead, my dad's married, and I have a new brother? It's crazy. I guess I can relate to Peter because we both have dead parents.
"Are we there yet?" Owen asks from the backseat.
"Only three more hours," May says, turning around to him with a kind smile.
Having May around has really helped my dad. He hasn't been the best person but he's cleaned up since May came into the picture. She's not the greatest cook but she's got a big heart and a lot of patience.
"Really? Only three?" Owen asks in surprise but also with contentment.
I'm also surprised by this because it feels like we've only been in the car for five hours instead of ten. I did take a nap though, so that probably helped.
"I know right?" May says. "It doesn't feel like it's been that long and we'll be in our new house in no time."
"Can I pick my room?" Owen asks her, earning a glare through the rearview from my dad.
"Yeah of course!" May answered. "There's four bedrooms so have at it. Except for the one with the bathroom, that one's mine."
"Darn," I say jokingly, giving May a smirk.
She just shakes her head at me and turns back around.
I turn my head to the window and look at the trees passing by. It definitely looks different, drastically different. There are no skyscrapers or taxis, just trees and the occasional car.
"So, Peter," May says turning back around, looking back again. She caught the attention of both me and Peter, which caused confusion.
That was one of the hardest parts of Dad marrying May, Peter and I have the same name.
"Um, yeah both Peters," May says with a laugh and other Peter takes out his earbuds. "Are you guys ready for school?"
Peter and I look at each other and both of us shrug simultaneously.
"Oh it'll be fun," May tries to excite us. "You'll get to meet new people and make new friends."
"I still think we should have brought Ned with us," Peter says, mentioning his best friend from his science school.
"You know I would have loved to do that but I don't think his parents would agree to that," May states.
"Does Riverdale High have any sports?" I ask.
"They have football, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading. You could be a great cheerleader," May teases.
"Cheerleading isn't a sport, May," Peter comments his opinion. "It's like Tennis."
For once we can agree on something.
"Ok, maybe not but they still have it," she says with a shrug. "I don't think they count academic decathlon as a sport either."
I can't even say academic decathlon.
"I didn't say it was," Peter defends.
May rolls her eyes and looks at Owen. "What about you?"
"School's school," Owen says plainly. "No matter which school you go to it sucks either way."
Dad shoots him another glare through the rearview mirror and I chuckle.
"Maybe you'll have fun," May suggests. "At least try to enjoy it won't you guys?"
"Yeah, we'll do our best," I promise her and we go back to silence.
I pull my phone out of my pocket and go to Instagram, looking through all of my old pictures. I see Jen, my old girlfriend in one of them and decide to delete the picture. Some of them are of my friends from lacrosse, some of them are of my dog Riley, who's in the backseat with Owen, and the latest post is from Dad and May's wedding.
I click on the post from the wedding and examine the pictures more thoroughly. One of them is me, Peter, and Owen all looking forced to be comfortable with each other. Another one is Dad, Owen and me, and the last one is me and Jen. If anything looking at the post makes me more sad. We don't look like a family. Hopefully someday we'll look more like one, but we're still not comfortable with each other yet.
As the next three hours pass, I look out the window and think about what Riverdale will look like. I imagine it as a nice, clean place where the sun always shines and the kids all know each other and I hope that's the way it will be.
