(Sophia's POV)
I walked through the hallway as I left class. I was excited that it was finally the weekend. That meant two whole days that belonged to just Moon and I.
No work.
No school.Just us.
"Sophia?!" I heard just as I had made it to the door.
It was Erin. She's in all of my classes.
"What's up?"
"Can you do me the biggest favor ever?"
"Sure thing."
"My sister just went into labor so I have to go to the hospital. The problem is that I promised Professor Hines that I'd get some photos for him this evening."
"Photos from where?"
"The park. There's a festival or something going on there."
"I'll take care of it."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Go see your sister."
"You're the best." She squealed as she hugged me.
I grabbed one of the cameras from the school before texting Moon.
To Moon:
Have to take some pictures for one of my professors. Be home later than expected. Love you. 😘I put the camera in my bag and headed out.
When I got to the park it didn't take me long to find what Erin had been talking about. There were food trucks, prize stands, and a bunch of other stuff set up all around.
I snapped a couple practice shots just as my phone buzzed.
From Moon:
Where are you? I'll come there.To Moon:
Park. Look for festival. Call when you get here.I was so busy texting Moon that I didn't see the man in front of me, so I ran right into him.
"I'm so sorry, Sir." I quickly apologized.
"It's alright. You're forgiven."
I froze.
My whole body froze. I could feel myself reverting back to all those years ago. Every wall in my head was going back up. I was tense yet shaking at the same time.
"Long time no see, Sophia. How've you been?"
I couldn't get a word out.
I couldn't get a sound out.
I told myself I wasn't going to be afraid, but when I saw him all I saw was the Devil.
"Cat got your tongue?" Another voice asked.
It was the Devil Jr.
"It's nice to see you. Nice to see how...grown up you've become. You look just like your mother did."
"I have....I have a..."
"Restraining order?" He asked with a smirk.
I nodded.
"Yet here we are. Inches apart."
I was so frozen that I couldn't even answer my phone when it began to ring. My father grabbed it out of my hand and answered for me.
"Hello? Sophia's a little star struck right now. We're by the entrance. Better hurry." He slipped my phone into my pocket and leaned in real close.
"See you soon, Sweetheart."
Then they were gone.
In what felt like hours, Moon was in front of me.
"Are you okay? Did he touch you? Did he hurt you? Where'd he go? I'm going to kill him." Moon rambled as he scanned my from head to toe.
"I'm okay. They just talked."
"They?"
I nodded and the fire in Moon's eyes burned a little brighter.
"From now on, until they are locked back up, someone is staying with you 24/7. Understand?"
I nodded. I wasn't going to argue with him.
"Let's go home."
"I still have to get pictures."
"Do it quickly." He said.
I snapped the photos I needed before Moon whisked me back to our apartment. The only place that I truly felt safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Derek's POV)"We're going to get locked up for violating the restraining order." Alex said.
"No one saw us. Just Sophia." I said as we sat down on a bench.
It was at the perfect spot for us to still see Sophia frozen in place. Alex was to stupid to see that. He's always been stupid.
I watched in amusement as the man that called her ran up to her and started looking her over. My daughter had grown up to be a beautiful woman.
I was very surprised when I saw him waiting for me outside the gate. Takes a lot of balls for a man to approach a convicted killer the second they get released. A lot of balls.
"Gotta give him credit." I muttered.
"What? Who?"
I pointed.
"Moon? Why?"
"He's got her wrapped around his finger."
"He's wrapped around hers too though." Alex said. "She moved in with him recently."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah. He moved here from Korea to be with her."
I shook my head. "You should've handled it all those years ago."
"I tried my best. I didn't know he wasn't inside. I didn't know his dumbass would run back in and protect her."
I rolled my eyes.
"I wanted to prove myself to you, dad."
"Let's go."
