My head aches as my eyes fly open. I'm lying on something hard. Maybe the ground? A cold wind surrounds me. So if guess I must be outside. I couldn't remember where I was. Wait. I can't even remember who I was. What on earth was going on? I push those thought to the back of my mind for now. I could worry about that later. Once I figured out where I was. I slowly sit up so as not to aggravate my already pounding sore head. My earlier assumptions were confirmed. I was lying on the ground outside. Tall walls were on each side of me and seemed to branch off into other areas. There wasn't a roof connecting the walls as far as I could see which meant I could see the early morning sky. It could only have been about 5 or 6 in the morning. How could I remember how to tell the time but not who or where I am? I have no idea.

Leaning against a wall for support I get to my feet unsteadily. It takes a few moments before my legs become strong enough to hold my weight themselves. Even so I stumble slightly when I let go of the wall. I walk down what looked to be a corridor and took a left. Then a right, Then another left. Everywhere there is another twist or another turn, almost like a maze. I break into a run as the fear begins building up inside me. As the panic sets in I run faster. There had to be a way out of here. I couldn't be stuck here by myself could I? From behind me I can hear a whirling clicking noise. I glance over my shoulder to find a machine like creature chasing me. I speed up ignoring my laboured breaths. A second one appears out of seemingly nowhere and crashes into the other one my mistake. I run round another corner hoping I had lost them only to crash into something hard and fall down onto my butt. I scramble away thinking it's another one of those creatures only to find an Asian boy with strong arms and short black hair that looked to be slightly older than me.

"Who the hell are you" we both yell

"I asked you first" I spit at him with both anger and pain. My head had become worse after my fall.

"What the hell are you doing in the maze" he yells

"If I knew that id tell you" I snap "but I'm too busy running from those freaky mechanical things to care too much"

"Mechanical things? You mean the grievers" he asks

"Grievers, mechanical things. I don't care what they're bloody called" I growl

He studies me a moment before grabbing my arm and pulling me to my feet breaking into a run forcing me to run along behind him

"Hey what are you doing" I yell indignantly

"Taking you back to the others shank" he snaps. Others? He said others. There were others. Let's just hope they aren't anything like this guy.

"Shank? What the bloody hell is a shank" I snap "and I still don't know your name. Or who I am. Or where I am. Or who you are"

"I'm Minho" he states ending the conversation. We take so many different turns I lose track until finally we reach a large section in the wall that lead to a grassy area. We run into the area and I stare around wide eyed.

"Newt" Minho calls. He sounded distant but I knew he was right beside me as his hand was still cutting off the circulation to my arm.

"Minho? You're meant to be..... Who's that" a new voice asks. I'm not paying attention still staring around the place.

Minho shoves me slightly and I jerk back to reality. I stare at the new boy running up the side of the hill. He was tall and muscular with blonde hair that came to just over his shoulder and a square jaw. As he ran I noticed a slight limp. Maybe from a past accident?

"I'm newt" the guy introduces himself

"Nice to know" I say coldly "anyone care to explain who the hell I am"

He just laughs and turns to another boy that's running up the hill "Thomas, coming to meet the new greenie"

The closer he gets the more my head begins to thump

10 feet away THUMP

8 feet away THUMP THUMP

6 feet away THUMP THUMP THUMP

4 feet away THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

2 feet away THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

My legs buckle under me and I black out before I even hit the ground.
