For the next few weeks I continue with my job as a runner. Considering no one else would take me on. Newt wasn't too happy with the idea but We didn't have any more griever attacks. Which just made us even more suspicious.
Whenever I wasn't running I was with newt we were inseparable. I had had more bad dreams. Actually one every single night so far. Not that anyone knew. So far there had been the girl with the lizards, a girl that had an open wound that was green with poison and a girl with a bullet wound in her side.
I had sprained my ankle badly whilst running with Minho yesterday so I wasn't allowed to run for today. So I was wondering around the glade bored out of my mind. Thomas wasn't running today as it would mean he'd have to go alone.
"You shouldn't be on that ankle so much" newt says appearing behind me
"Bloody hell newt you scared me" I snap smiling. "I'm just bored I guess"
"The new greenie should be here any moment. How about you head down to the box" newt suggests.
"Best idea yet" I reply I begin a fast jog down to the box ignoring newt's yells to walk. I get there just as the alarm goes off signalling a new greenie.
The other gladers begin racing down.
"Can I get them alby" I ask
"Go ahead" he replies. He'd become use to me now. He didn't hate me as much.
As soon as the box stops I open the doors and climb in. a girl lies passed out in the box.
"What is it mia" alby asks impatiently.
"It's a girl" I call back "and she's umm. She's not moving."
"Get Clint and Jeff" alby orders chuck who races off. "What's that in her hand?"
I look down and sure enough there is a note in her hand. I gently uncurl her hand and take the note.
"Well. Read it" gally says
"The is the last one. The last glader. The last elevator. The glade is no longer safe. There is another glade in section 7. All female. You must collect them and go to section 3 where there is a new glade. You have 4 days" I look up at the gladers as I finish. Then. It's as if something clicked and the next thing I know everything goes black.
I wake up as the memory I had just witnessed swirls around my head. Tears are in my eyes.
"Red what's wrong?" newt asks. He had climbed down into the box which it turned out I was still in.
"We have something to say" Thomas says grabbing the glader's attention. The girl is gone which meant Jeff or Clint had collected her. Newt and I climb back out of the box. It doesn't go down though.
"Teresa and I. we umm we've been getting memories back for a while now." Thomas says
"And you only decided to share them now?" alby snaps
"We wanted to find out more first" Thomas replies "we found out that we did something bad. Something really bad."
"You helped create the maze" I finish for him. People were staring at the pair of them in fear.
No one says anything for an age until finally I do. "I just got a memory back"
Newt spins round to face me so quickly I thought he was going to fall over.
"And it's....its bad" I mutter as the tears enter my eyes again. I'm staring at the floor and I finally look up "turns out. You were right all along gally. I'm not a glader. I was meant to die in the maze"
"Mia what are you saying" newt asks
"W.I.C.K.E.D they are the ones behind it. Behind all of us being here" I start
"We already know that" newt says
"What you don't know is that there's one person in particular behind all this" my voice is soft and the complete opposite of what it usually sounds like "Ava Paige"
"It's just a name to us red" newt says sadly.
"But it's not to me" I reply as a tear rolls down my cheeks. "She's my mother newt"
