Dear Reader,
You're going to notice pretty quickly in this story that the main character and I share a first name. Before you go thinking I'm just that narcissistic, I'd like to explain why.
At the time I was writing this novel, I had not yet come out as a transgender woman. I was trying to live my life as a man, and it was causing me a great deal of depression and anxiety. Writing was an escape for me and in this story especially. When I set out to write The Gospel of the Font, I wanted to do more than just tell a compelling story; I wanted to let the main character reflect the real me. I told the story through her eyes so I could live it along with her.
Before I came out, I only presented as female online. When doing so, I adopted the name Faith Meade since I had grown to identify with and find strength in my character. When I did finally reveal my truth to the world and the world wanted to know what to call me, there was really only one answer.
So that's my story. Faith Meade is not named after me. I'm named after her because she was me in a time when I couldn't be me myself...if that makes sense.
I'll let you get to the story now.
Enjoy!
