(Dan's PoV)

"Here, this is your necklace, Dan. Never lose it, honey." Dan's mother warned the 8 - year old Dan as he carefully put the golden chain on. He was proud that he had recieved a golden necklace - he was gay, and a golden necklace meant that he was going to be the dominant one in the relationship. For straight people, both of their necklaces were bronze. The submissive one in the gay relationship had a silver bracelet that measured their pulse and sent the pulse to their soulmate. The necklace measured the pulse from the person's neck and sent it to the other. The rate would speed up if they were in the same room or really close to each other.

"Okay, mum!" Dan chirped before opening the circular locket that hid some sort of clue to find his soulmate. Don't get your hopes up, was what the piece of paper said. Dan frowned before ruffling his dark brown hair. He trudged into his room, still thinking about the paper. What the bloody hell did it mean?

- 5 years later -

I walked into my school, my golden chain shining against my black t - shirt. I noticed the black - haired boy that was new. The beat of the necklace began to go faster, and I felt my face flush as the boy seemed to be distracted by his silver bracelet. He held it between two fingers, slightly blushing when he saw me staring at him. A thought creeped into my head. Is he my soulmate? If he was, I wasn't complaining. He was cute and smart - my ideal person. He seemed pretty nice. The guy scratched the back of his neck, adjusting his sweater uncomfortably. I breathed in, and walked over to him. The heart rate of the necklace and myself began to rise uncontrollably. I hesitated a little before lightly grabbing his hand. In an instant, the BPM skyrocketed, making our eyes widen. I saw his pale blue eyes sparkle as he smiled and looked down.

"Hey. I'm Dan, Daniel James Howell." I whispered, and he turned his gaze to mine.

        "I'm Phil. Philip Michael Lester..."

- After school when Dan's at his house -

I met him! I met him! I sat on my bed, staring out of the window. I felt my eyes soften as I thought about him. We had exchanged words, numbers, and hugs today at school. It was amazing... Philip Michael Lester, he said his name was. Posh name, I had thought, but then he explained that he didn't like to be called Philip because it was way too fancy. Anyhow, I met my soulmate!
"What's going on, sweet? You look like you visited heaven and came back!" My mum grinned as she anticipated what I was going to say.

"I met him!" I squeaked out, and she wrapped me in a tight, celebrating hug.

"Congrats, honey! What's his name? What's he look like? He gonn come over some time?" Mum exploded with questions, and laughing, I attempted to calm her down.

"His name is Phil. Philip Michael Lester. He has black hair, pale skin and icy blue eyes. He's the most perfect boy in the universe," I explained, and she grinned, shaking her head.

"Of course he is. To match my Danny boy, he'd have to be perfect."

- Another time skip because story explaination is unnecessary -

        "Good night, Dan!"

"G'night, mum!" I chirped, still giddy from meeting Phil. Man, who knew this kind of thing could have this much of an effect? My thoughts were still revolving around Phil when I felt the pulse on my neck started to get unnessecerily faster. What was this? Then, I felt a slight pain on my wrists. I raised them up to see blood red slits on them. Shit. It must be Phil. I immediately get out of bed, get dressed and run over to Phil's house. I didn't care that it was almost 11:00 PM. I needed to stop him right now. Panting, I squeak open the window to his room, since Phil said that it was almost never closed. I jumped in - luckily, Phil's house was only one - story tall.

"Philip!" I exclaimed, rushing over to his bathroom door. Not caring about his parents, I harshly banged on it, shouting 'let me in' over and over again. After a while, my face was blotchy from tears and I myself was bleeding from my knuckes and the sides of my hands were badly bruised. Exhausted, I slid down the door, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Phil, Phil..." I whispered, burying my face into my hands. Fucking Phil. He had to do it. Why? Why today? Why did he even do it? Was it because his soulmate was me? Was I that bad? Fuck... goddamnit. I focused on the heart rate in my necklace. Oh no. It was getting slower. Just hang in there Phil, please, please... no. I can't - just then, I heard a quiet, eerie 'click' from the other side of the door. I hurriedly swung open the door, and as soon as I lay my eyes on the black - haired boy, the necklace stopped completely. No, no, no. It stopped, it FUCKING STOPPED! Phil!

"Wake up, Phil! Phil, why?" I broke down, kneeling right next to Phil. I was covered in his blood, but I didn't give a shit. I raised my arms to see millions of slits slowly fading away. He was going, and I couldn't stop it.

"Idiot..." I softly murmured, tears streaming down my face, as I hugged Phil tightly. I could hear Phil's parents running to the room door. They flung it open, and when they saw me, the first thing Phil's father did was shoot me with a pistol, straight in my head. The world immediately began to fade away from me, and as I collasped on top of Phil, I managed a slight smile and whispered,

        "Thank you."
