I threw on a loose black cami and some black leggings. I wasn't in the mood for colors that day. I slowly opened the door and the first thing I saw was Leo rummaging through the fridge and creating a racket with the pans and pots. God, what is he up to now?
"What are you doing?"
He looked up at me for a second and then continued grabbing things from the tiny fridge.
"Getting all the ingredients to cook." he huffed as he stood up and placed whatever he grabbed onto the kitchenette counter.
"Jesus Leo, for ten people?"
He looked around and realised he literally took out every single thing from the fridge.
"Oh." he frowned and I bit back laughter.
"Oh, you think that's funny huh?" he grinned. Wow, who knew he could smile. Full teeth even! It looked really good on him and my heart started doing the annoying thing it does. Great. I cleared my throat.
"Here." I placed three eggs in front of him in a bowl. "Break them and then whisk them."
He looked at me as though I was talking in some bizarre language.
"Whisk?" he frowned.
"Yeah, whisk. Don't tell me you've never whisked eggs before."
"Nope. I have a butler back home who does all the cooking so..." he shrugged.
I looked at him, slightly horrified.
"Okay then, do you know how to break the eggs?"
He scoffed. "Im not that stupid."
He slowly took out all the eggs from the bowl, picked up an egg and gently started hitting it on the side of the bowl. By this rate, we'd be making breakfast the entire day. I looked out the window and realised we were literally in the middle of no where. The entire area was covered with wide fields of grass. There were no other trailors around us either. I looked back at Leo and he still wasn't done with the first egg.
I rolled my eyes. "Harder. Hit harder."
"I know what I'm doing."
"No you don't."
"Yes I d-"
I reached over and placed my hand on his. His eyes shot wide and he looked up at me.
"Like this." I said. I guided his hand and gave the egg one hard knock against the side of the bowl and pried it open.
"There, all done." I smiled and looked up at him. My smile quickly faded when I realised he was staring at me. His bright blue eyes got darker and my heart hammered against my ribs. I was ready to jump out my seat and retreat back into my safe zone. This guy was like a ticking time bomb. His eyes drifted down to his hand and I followed his gaze, only to realise that my hand was still on his. Shit.
I immediately pulled my hand away and I felt myself turning red.
"W-was cracking an egg against the rules?" I squeaked.
A smile slowly crept up on his face and he visibly relaxed. Oh thank god, I felt like I could breathe again.
He shook his head. "No, it's not that. It's-" he trailed off.
He looked as though he recalled something he'd been trying so hard to forget. And he was really bad at hiding what was going on in that heart of his. There was this sudden pained look on his face and for the first time since I've been here, my heart sank at the sight of him. I wanted to say something but I didn't know what. He exhaled sharply and within seconds he was back to normal. His dark eyes slowly met mine."Where were we?"
"The eggs." I muttered.
"Oh, right. You start with the bacon and I'll finish the eggs."
"Leo, are you alright?"
"Yes, now would you please get on with the bacon im starving." He said irritably. He picked up an egg and cracked it open within seconds.
"But you seem a little down."
He looked up at me and gave me that "are-you-still-talking?" look. I guess that was my cue to leave. I slowly got off my seat and made a beeline to the stove. Jeez, my bad for being concerned. And I thought I was confusing.
I put some butter into the pan, turned on the stove and let it melt for few seconds. I reluctantly turned around to see Leo staring out the window. The eggs were all in the bowl I had to blink a few times when I realised the eggs were whisked. I rolled my eyes.
I don't know why, but I had this dying urge to know why he was down. I know I shouldn't care and all but I was dead curious. Curious about what has gotten a tough, cold person like him to go all gloomy and agitated. I placed 4 bacon onto the pan and the moment it started sizzling, he turned around and looked at me."Do you miss home?" I asked.
He scoffed and sat back onto his seat. "No. Why do you ask?"
"That's why you're all gloomy-"
"Im not upset. Just tired." He folded his arms.
"You honestly don't miss home?"
He shook his head. "Why should I? it's not like ive got people back there who miss me." he muttered the last few words but I heard him clearly.
"What do you mean? of course there are people who miss you. Your mum your dad, do you know how much they think about you? They're probably thinking about you now."
His back jaw clenched and his pained expression intensified. Great, ive set off the time bomb once again. Good job Arden. He stared at me with such menacing eyes and in that moment, I was hoping the ground would open and swallow me up.
"You don't know a single shit about me, do you?"
I frowned. "Was it something I said?"
"Yes." he shouted and I jumped. My heart started pounding so hard I wouldn't be surprised if it exploded.
He stood up and craned over me. "You know what? rule number 3, don't ever say a word to me. Not once. Because whatever that comes out from that mouth of yours is bullshit." He snarled and my heart sank to my stomach. It felt like he punched a hole through it. Tears filled my eyes and within seconds, they were streaming down my cheeks.
"What is wrong with you? What the fuck did I ever do to you?" I pushed him away by his chest and he barely budged. He showed no emotions and that made me even furious. If I stood in front of him any longer, I was afriad I might just end up giving him a black eye.
"You're a monster." I whispered through gritted teeth.
That one word immediately removed all traces of coldness in him. His face slowly got back his natural color and his once emotionless face, now looked wounded. He breathed out sharply and took a step back. It's like he came to realisation of what he said and he damn well knew how much damage his words caused.
I stormed back into my room and shut the door behind me. I had this feeling this was going to be a routine. I didn't want to cry, I was sick of it. It has only been the second day and Ive already cried two times thanks to that demon. I hastily wiped my eyes and took a deep breath. No, my life has already been ruined by me being far away from my family. Im not going to let some grown up adult who behaves like a child ruin it further for me. I decided to never leave the room, unless I needed food. Yeah, that was the only way.
I sat on the bed and pulled out all my drawing stuff. I began doodling to get my mind off what happened earlier on but all I could draw was a person with horns on their head. This was going to be a long ass day.
