It was peaceful, the ideal environment for a stressed college student. You wiggled deeper into the sand, letting the warm ocean waves rise onto the shore and lap at your ankles. It had soaked through your vans awhile ago and yet you had hardly even noticed. The slight breeze blew across your face, keeping you just cool enough. The scene was entirely the opposite of the library where you had been just moments before. And then it hit you.
"The Library!" You shouted, shooting up from your comfortable place on the shore line. You took one look around you and nearly fainted. How in the hell had you landed yourself on some tropical island?
But a voice interrupted your thoughts. "Young Lady, are you alright?" Rasped a little old man from behind you. You whirled around to reassure him but stopped short. What the Hell was he wearing? It looked like it had come straight out of one of those old movies about the United States colonies.
"I-I..." you trailed off, trying to calm yourself down before you freaked out. "I'm fine. Thank you very much sir." You said trying to turn away from him. But he stopped you.
"I believe this is yours?" He said, holding something out to you. It took only a moment's glance to see that it was the tome you'd been translating.
Had the tome brought you here?
You scoffed inwardly at the thought, as you walked away from the kind old man. It was ridiculous to think anything like that could possibly happen.
And even then, where was here?
Thinking to the clothes the old man had worn, you suddenly wondered if you had gone back in time.
"No, that's very very impossible." You assured yourself, sliding your feet out of your wet shoes and continuing down the beach barefoot. But a voice in your mind seemed to say the opposite.
Revertere.
You shook away the thought, trying to think about your situation rationally. Obviously, it was a dream. You smiled, knowing you'd outsmarted your own self-conscious, and reached up to pinch yourself.
A sharp pain shot up your arm and you froze for a moment. Again, the voice reminded you.
Revertere.
Your brain seemed to stop all function as you tried to wrap it around that notion. "Holy hell. Have I really gone back in time?" You asked the air around you breathlessly.
If it was true, you were a sitting duck dressed like a modern woman. You had to disguise yourself as one of the time period's people... the only issue with that was the fact that you didn't know when that was.
You looked around, perhaps trying to figure out where you were would help you figure out when you were. Unconsciously you walked over to the waves and waded into them, the water helping you to concentrate.
Judging simply from the clothes the man had been wearing, you could be anywhere from the 1500s to the 1800s. The only reason you knew this was because of your General Education History courses in your freshman year of college. "Thank God for Dr. Simmons." You said aloud, wading further into the water.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." A voice interrupted your thoughts. You whipped around to your unexpected advisor.
"Why not?" You asked, narrowing your eyes at the woman on the beach.
