24. Reunion

Sasuke's POV

I held my cooing child close to my chest with one arm. In the other, the knife. I was still skeptical, so I kept in in my hand till we got in the car. I quickly put Menma in his car seat and drove off, glancing at my phone.

            4 missed calls- Naruto Uchiha <3

  "Fuck" I muttered under my breath. He probably thinks i'm dead. I snatched my phone off the seat and quickly dialed the blonde back. It didn't even take a few seconds for him to pick up. "Sasuke?" I heard a worried voice call out from the other end of the phone. "I'm alright, babe. I got Menma. We're coming home." I spoke quietly into the speaker, not to disturb the baby. I could almost feel the tension drop from Naruto's voice. "Good.." He said with an easier voice.

   "I'll be there in 5. Love you." I mumbled. "Love you, too." He said back, a faint cheerfulness in his voice. I tossed my phone onto the seat and placed my other hand on the wheel.

Naruto's POV

   "What happened?" Shikamaru asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. "They're both safe. Sasuke's on his way home now." I smiled softly. "That's good. I should probably get going now." He said, grabbing his coat. "alright.. take care, Shikamaru.." I said, glancing at him. He walked out just a few minutes before i heard a knock at the door. I opened it, carefully. "Sasuke!.. Are you okay? You're not hurt right? How's Menma? Where'd you find him? Is he h-.." "Naruto." Sasuke said with a faint smirk. I blushed a bit. "y-yeah?" He took Menma out of his carrier and placed him into my arms. "We're both okay. You don't have to worry about the rest."

  I didn't think much of it. I caressed Menma's head as tears flooded my eyes. "I'm so sorry, baby.. I'm such a terrible dad.. I shouldn't have left you unattended like that.." I closed my eyes and hid my face into Menma's shoulder.

   "Naru.. it wasn't your fault. Don't think of it like that." Sasuke said grabbing my waist. "d.. da?" I lifted my head, my eyes wide. "M-Menma!.. You said your first word!" Sasuke seemed pretty shocked too. "but he's still so young.. how did-.." i stopped myself to kiss Menma's cheek. He giggled softly and grabbed my nose. "It's good to have you back, Ma." I walked upstairs and placed him in his crib, making sure to lock the window. Sasuke followed me and sat in the rocking chair.

"Get some rest, i'll stay in here with Menma." He said, glancing at the crib. I sat sasuke's lap, facing him with my head laid on his chest. "I missed you." I mumbled as he ran his hands through my hair. "I.. was worried.." I whispered. "Naru, I promise nothing bad will happen to me, or Menma." He planted a soft kiss on my forehead and closed his eyes. "Get some rest." He muttered. I closed my eyes as well and held onto his waist. "promise." i whispered before dozing off into a light slumber.
