"colby," sam called, needing to show him something. "colby come look!"
colby rushed into their room, he had just got back from the complex's gym, so he was still a little sweaty.
"what is it?" he asked worriedly, not sure what was going on. that was until he saw sam standing in front of the mirror with his shirt lifted.
"I'm showing!"
colby's face broke out in a smile as he took in the lovely sight. he ran up to sam to hug him from behind and placed his hands on sam's small but apparent belly as he looked at themselves in the mirror. he gave sam a warm kiss on the neck, making sam melt into his touch.
"our baby," was all colby could say as he felt every inch of sam's small tummy.
"yeah, it's our baby." sam said as he began to cry at this beautiful moment.
"how didn't we notice?" sam turned around in his arms.
"we have been very busy, recording video's all day then editing all night. we haven't had much time to breathe." colby said plainly. it was true, they had been so busy lately. maybe they should take a small break.
"how about to I go out and get us a little present for all our hard work." sam said with a smile on his face. colby grinned.
"what do you mean, sammy?" colby said with confused eyebrows. sam only grinned.
"let me get dressed, it's a surprise." sam said as he let go of colby, slipping on a new shirt and some shoes.
"hey wait-- you be careful, I'm serious sam," colby said as he realized his pregnant boyfriend was about to get behind a wheel for the first time 2 months. "hey let me just come with you."
"no colbs, I want to do this for you. you've been so good and we've worked so hard," sam pleaded. he really wanted to surprise him with this gift, they've needed it for a while now.
"just let me drive you then, ill wait in the parking lot."
"no, I'll be back soon." sam said after he gave him a peck on the lips, exiting and shutting the door before colby could protest.
sam jumped in his car and put the seatbelt on. he smiled at how he could barely see the seatbelt crossing his lap because of his stomach. it was the little things that made him happy.
as he arrives at his destination, he walks inside and looks at his different options. there were tripods, go-pros, security systems, but sam knew what they needed.
he perked up and walked quickly towards the cameras after finally finding them in the huge electronics store.
"hello, may I help you find anything in particular?" a tall, black-haired man asked them with a shiny white smile. sam wouldn't admit it but he was kind of intimidating.
"uh.. yeah actually I'm looking for a new camera, I'm a youtuber so..." he trailed off, feeling uncomfortable under the man's gaze.
"well you're in the right place," he said matter-of-factly, "
sam followed the camera-man as they neared the abundance of videography choices. after a while of looking and listening to the pros and cons, he decided on the Canon Powershot G7 that came with a microphone for 10% off.
sam typed his credentials into the keypad and slipped his card back into his wallet. he hoped colby would like the new camera, they've been working so hard on their videos lately and sam knew that a more reliable camera was necessary.
as sam gets in his car, he pulls out of the parking lot and onto the main road.
but sam didn't see it coming.
maybe because he was too busy thinking about colby's reaction to the new camera, or maybe it was because he wasn't paying attention or maybe they just came from a blind spot.
sam's body propels to the side, his seatbelt nearly choking him, but saving his life.

"your call has been forwarded to an automated voice messaging system. 8-2-"
colby didn't understand why sam was ignoring him, did he do something wrong? maybe he was being too protective over him like he had been last month. he knew sam didn't like to be smothered like that.
before he could come up with any other excuses on sam's behalf, his phone began buzzing as sam's contact picture popped up on his phone. colby answered immediately, disoriented.
"sammy? where are you?"
"colby... colby I need you to come get me," sam said, his voice panicked.
"what's wrong? where are you? I'm on my way," colby said, holding his phone to his ear with his shoulder as he puts his shoes on. "just hang on, baby."

"okay sam, it looks like your going to be okay," a man named dr. jones said with a warm smile.
but sam didn't smile back. that's not what sam was worried about, sam was worried about his baby, not himself.
"however, I am going to send you to your obsetrician to get a double check up on your pregnancy." he said certainly.
sam looked up at colby who was standing next to the hospital bed with sad eyes. colby thanked the doctor and gave sam a kiss on the forehead.
he could tell sam was worrying about the baby, and so was he, but colby was so relieved that sam got out of there with just a little bit of whiplash.
"baby, I am so sorry. this is all my fault. I should have just went with you. I could have made sure that you were okay. I could have gotten to you sooner," colby wept.
"colby, this is not your fault. neither of us knew this was going to happen. besides, the cop said that the guy that hit me was going way too fast, and that my car was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could have happened to anyone," sam said assuringly before being cut off.
"but you're not just anyone, sam!" colby said with a raised voice, making sam flinch. but he understood that he was just scared. he knew colby was going to beat himself up over this.
"come on, lets go see angie." colby sighed.
