            ~Emery~

Ashton pulled up at Tara's house, which was right on the edge of town, surrounded by forest on every side. He parked the car and stared up at the house. "I can't believe you dragged me over here."

"Come on, Ash, let's have fun for once," I leaned my head back on the seat and looked over at him.

"We do have fun," he replied, rolling his eyes.

"Sitting in your room listening to Fall Out Boy?"

            "Yes!"

I opened my door and motioned for him to follow. He reluctantly got out and walked with me up to the door, one arm slung over my shoulders. I knocked on the door, already hearing music playing. Britt opened it, smile fading when she saw us.

"I thought you were Tara," she said, blocking the entrance.

"Sorry to disappoint, sweetheart," Ashton pushed past her, dragging me after him. "Hemmings!"

Luke stuck his head out of the kitchen. "Hey!"

We went into the kitchen with Luke, who was setting up cups. "Is Tara not here?" I asked. I didn't know Tara that well. She sat in the back of my art class and never turned anything on time. She wasn't very good either. The only real conversation I ever had was when she offered me a fifty to do one of her projects. She was loaded.

Luke shook his head. "When we got here she was in a panic, something about how she had to meet up with someone. She told us to finish setting up."

Ashton glanced at me. "So we're just in her house by ourselves?"

"Yeah," Luke rolled his eyes. "Honestly," he lowered his voice. "I don't even know why Britt wanted to help her out. I don't even like the girl."

"But she throws a great party," Ashton sarcastically remarked.

"Damn straight," Luke said setting up the last cup. "You know what, I'm starving. How does Chipotle sound?"

"It sounds like I just wasted gas driving over here," Ashton replied. "but I'm in. Em?"

"Fine with me, I'm going to go talk to Britt," I headed for the door.

"Good luck with that," Luke muttered, which I found strange. I went to the living room, where Britt was messing with some streamers.

"Need some help?" I offered, suddenly nervous to talk to this girl that used to be my best friend. She gave me a disgusted look.

            "No."

"Britt, why have you been acting like this?"

"Because, Emery!" she threw down the roll of streamers and spins to look at me. "I'm tired of your joyful presence! How the hell are you so happy all the time?!"

I was taken aback. "What are you talking about? Is this about Luke?"

"Can you just leave me alone?"

"No, I want to help, we're supposed to be friends," I took a step forward.

"You can't help!" she yelled. "Just leave me alone!"
