The Ghost and I [Sterek]

Chapter 12

"Good things happen to those wait is total horse shit. I've been waiting hundred years for something good to happen to me and I thought I was finally going to get it. Guess fucking not," Stiles raged as he got out of bed and stood by the window in their room overlooking the preserve.

"Stiles, it could be nothi-"

"But it also could be something. When has our life ever been perfect, there's always something in the way." Stiles cut off Derek from trying to lesson the problem. With Stiles still facing out the window, he didn't see Derek get up and walk up behind him until he noticed arms wrapping around him. Having Derek around him lessened Stiles' anxiety by a lot and it showed when he relaxed and leaned into the taller mans chest.

"I know our life isn't easy and maybe one day it might be but I need you to not go into protective mama wolf mode, we need to have a plan first. Tomorrow I'll get Issac and Jackson to go out with me and see if we can figure out what we're dealing with." Derek explained as he wrapped his arms around Stiles just a little tighter, "Sound good?" Derek concluded with a kiss on top of his mates head. Stiles nodded as much as he could in agreement.

"Good, now lets get back in bed and go to sleep. We both need to be well rested tomorrow."

"Fuck Mason, I think one of them got my scent." A young werewolf cried out to his best friend.

"It'll be fine, Liam. Everything will be fine." Mason a young human said to his best friend Liam, hugging him and trying to be calm. Being calm let the werewolf know that it was okay to be calm.

Derek woke up early and made sure not to wake up Stiles. He quietly got dressed and opened the door to walk down the hall to the room that Issac and Jackson shared. Derek opened the door quietly to see both of them dead asleep, Derek smirked at the idea that popped into his head after that. He walked over to Jackson and carefully pulled a pillow from beside the sleeping boy, he than hit Jackson with the pillow. Not enough to hurt him, just enough to scare him into waking up. Jackson shot up and almost screamed out a threat before he saw his alpha looming over him. Derek then did the same thing to Issac just slightly softer.

"Okay you two, get dressed and meet me out side. You're going to help me checked the preserve today." Derek explained and left after he got a nod from both boys. He walked down the stairs and out the back door, waiting for his two betas to finish up. It wasn't long until both boys looking slightly less tired emerged from the house.

"So yesterday I smelt something off and it's been bugging me. It doesn't smell like a threat so I'm not that worried but i need you two to still be cautious" Derek started to explain as he walked towards the woods. He made sure his betas were following him before he continued, "Somebody is on our territory and we need to be level headed and not go in guns blazing."

"Yes alpha," The two betas behind him agreed. Derek had brought them out mostly to teacher them what they should do if this were to happen again. He has learned his betas do better by doing than hearing. As they continued to walk they got to a clearly and very clearly they heard a yelp. Derek and the betas stopped and Derek half shifted so his eyes were red.

Looking around Derek saw a bush rustle, slowly he approached it making sure the betas weren't following him. With practiced alpha stealth Derek had rounded the bush and saw two young teenage boys huddled together shaking in fear. Derek flashed his eyes at the one boy who was obviously a werewolf and his eyes shifted back blue. 'Such a shame that a boy this young had blue eyes instead of yellow' Derek thought to himself.

"What's your names, where are you from, and how did you get on private property?" Derek asked, still half shifted with his eyes glowing. He was surprised when the none werewolf held his head up and answered.

"I'm Mason Hewitt and this is Liam Dunbar. We're from Beacon Hills, California and we heard about an alpha who takes in refugees. Please we're alone and don't have any weapons and we're running really low on money." Mason explained confidently to the alpha, showing he wasn't afraid to his friend, but as a born wolf Derek knew just how terrified both boys were.

"Who told you about this alpha?" Derek asked curiously, he knew of a couple people spread out that knew about his ragtag pack.

"Doctor Deaton, he's a vet but that's just a cover because he's really a druid and he's been helping me and Liam get to New York. So if you aren't Derek Hale just please let us go." Mason pleaded, showing a little fear which caused the boy in his arms to whimper.

"Get up and follow me, my betas will walk behind you to make sure you don't try to pull something." And with that, Derek turned around and started walking back to house, listening to make sure four people were walking behind him.

When they got closer to the house Derek pulled out his phone and called Stiles. Within seconds Stiles responded,

"Did you get them?"

"Yeah, we're almost at the house. Can you do me a favor and get some blankets and if we have any soup can you please warm it up."

"Are they an Omega?"

"No, its two teenage kids, one is a werewolf and it was enough of a pack for the werewolf to not turn into an Omega."

"Oh my god, yeah on it." Derek hung up and turned around, stopping just at the tree line.

"Liam, right?" The blond boy looked up and nodded, "There's a full pack in there so it's gonna be a lot for your nose, so be careful. My mate is also cooking up some soup for you two and I'm going to get you some blankets then we're gonna have a talk, the two of you, me and my mate." Derek explained before he turned back around a continued to the back door of the house.

When he opened it he was automatically attacked by a five year old hugging his legs. He picked her up and positioned her onto his hip. Claudia smiled and laid her head on her fathers chest, smiling when he gave her a kiss on her head.

"You smell funny daddy." Claudia giggled and held her nose. Derek gave her a small smile before telling her "It's not me pup, it's two new friends, and good nose." Derek booped her on the nose.

Derek noticed the blankets on the couch and motioned for the two boys to sit. "The blankets are for you, warm yourselves up before your food is ready. Jackson and Issac go into the kitchen and tell stiles what happened." Derek kindly ordered as he sat down on his chair that was just big enough for him and Stiles to share. He watched closely as Liam sat down first and Mason wrapped on of the blankets around Liam and then himself before sitting down.

Noticing that Derek had to ask, "Are you two mates?" Mason turned towards the alpha and gave a little smile before he started to explain, "No, we tried dating at one point but we realized we were better as friends, there's also something else but i'm not going to say that when a child is around," Derek chuckled understanding what they meant, "I just take care of him, I'm almost like his alpha in a way and we're best friends. Been there for each other since day one." Derek nodded, accepting the answer. The four people in the room looked over when the door to the kitchen suddenly opened.

"-Stairs and gather the rest of the pack, tell them what happened and stay up there. Men and Derek need to talk with them alone." Stiles said as he walked out of the kitchen with Jackson and Issac behind him. "Do you want us to take Claudia too?" Issac asked and when Stiles shook his head no he shrugged and continued walking towards the stairs with Jackson. "Shit, I forgot the soup," Stiles huffed as he turned around and re entered the living room with two steaming bowls of chicken noodle soup.

Stiles set the two bowls in front of the two boys and watched as they just stared at the bowls, "You can eat it you know." Stiles said as he grabbed Claudia out of Derek's arms and sat in her spot and instead placing her on his lap. "Eat and then we'll talk, got it." In between spoonfuls he got two nods from the boys.
