"... been usually showing a score of about 3 to 4... now boosted up to 10 to 11. It's positively alarming how quickly the numbers have changed...
"... might not be able to move or respond straight away... been so long..."
Allison's focus has been shifting in and out. Amelia rushed her to the hospital almost as soon as the phone call ended.
It took ages for a doctor to finally see her, but the news she received was definitely worth the wait.
"How long until—"
"We can't know for sure, we don't want to get our hopes up. You're more than welcome to stay around, but it could end up being moot. It's your choice."
Allison decides to stick around. She's so happy to have Amelia with her. She didn't even hesitate when Allison asked for the ride. She basically whipped the car keys out of nowhere and they drove down the slippery, wet roads to the hospital. They're now sitting by a couple of chairs outside the room.
"You don't have to stay around if you don't want to," Allison says. "I'm sure you'll have better things to do."
Amelia grabs Allison's hand and gives it a loving little shake. "Allison, I'm not too sure what to make of it, but I believe we were meant to cross paths. I think I'm supposed to be here, with you. I'm not going anywhere."
Allison doesn't know what to say. She just sits and smiles, tears brimming her eyes. She has made a friend.
"Thank you," is all she says.
