Chapter 3. The Job Offer

Yibo was sitting at a table in the bakery with Xiao Zhan and Louis, and drinking coffee with them. Finally Yibo had found his language again. Still he felt strange. Did he really get sick again?

"So, Louis told me you wanted to talk to me in person?" Asked Xiao Zhan after he had taken a sip of his hot coffee and Yibo didn't bother to be the first to say anything.

"Yes, exactly. I wanted to thank you personally for the help. And especially for covering the costs. I would like to pay you back. But right now I only have this part-time job and I can barely pay my rent and running costs." Explained Yibo calmly.

"Don't worry about it. The cost was not that high and I'm glad I could help." Xiao Zhan replied kindly.

Yibo blushed again because he hadn't thought that Xiao Zhan would say such a thing. He thought he would expect Yibo to pay back the money. But not that this one said he was glad he could help.

"So you're looking for a job? What did you study?" Zhan wanted to know.

"I studied business administration. But I don 't think that's really my case. I did it because my late parents wanted me to." Yibo replied honestly.

"And what exactly are you looking for now?" Asked Zhan.

"Right now? Just a job that keeps me afloat. Maybe there's a job that I like and that I can imagine permanently. But nobody's hiring at the moment. So this is the only job I have left." Explained Yibo.

"Then, how about this? You're looking for a job and I have a job to give. As a personal assistant, though. Because my good assistant got married recently and wants to quit working at her husband's request. I think the two are already planning to have children." Xiao Zhan replied.

"Is this offer serious? I mean, I'd like to do it." Said Yibo excited.

"Yes it is serious. But there are some strings attached. I would like to tell you about them in private. So I would invite you to come to my place later or tomorrow and I can explain everything to you." Said Xiao Zhan and handed Yibo his business card.

Yibo accepted with thanks and promised to come by after work.

"If you want, I can send Louis to pick you up. The house is a little out of the way and a little hard to find. He can take you home afterwards. There' s no bus that stops there anyway." Had offered Zhan and Yibo accepted the offer.

For Yibo, the day felt like his lucky day. Finally it seemed to move forward. And he had a new job lined up. However, he was very curious about the conditions that Xiao Zhan mentioned.

At 6 pm Yibo finished his shift at the bakery and when he left, Louis was already waiting for him. For the first time, Yibo was chauffeured by someone without having to pay afterwards. He felt very important for a moment. Like those important businessmen who have their own chauffeurs.

About half an hour later they reached the remote house of Xiao Zhan, Zhan had not been lying about this fact. Louis parked the car and asked Yibo to wait a moment. He took Yibo to the front door and opened it with a code.

Louis led Yibo in and Yibo expected to find a rather small, unadorned white hallway. There was only one other door down here that said ''apartment''. A staircase with wooden steps led up steeply to a light brown door.

After Louis opened it, Yibo looked into a longer corridor. On both sides of the white woodchip wallpapered hallway were doors. Two on the right, two on the left and one directly in front of them at the end of the corridor.

Louis explained to Yibo what was behind the doors. "Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and finally the workroom. Most of the time, the young master is in his workroom and does not want to be disturbed." Louis had explained.

Yibo was asked by Louis to take a seat in the living room and wait briefly until the young master arrived. But instead of sitting down, Yibo looked around in the big living room that looked like a library.

He saw some books that looked familiar to him. They were among the bestsellers of Romance books. He himself also had a copy of one at home. "Journey North." it was said and he wondered if Xiao Zhan was also a fan of the author.

The author known under the pseudonym Wei Wuxian, whose face nobody knows and nobody knows where he comes from and where he lives, had been a mystery. Everyone loved his books, every one of his fans wished he would finally reveal himself. But he remained in hiding.

An old typewriter stood on a table next to a bookshelf. A white sheet of paper was clamped inside. It said, "To my favorite writer, Wei Wuxian."

As Yibo read the words, his eyes widened. Could it be that the mysterious Wei Wuxian is none other than Xiao Zhan? His eyes fell on a few awards, also all for the author Wei Wuxian.

"You'd better keep this to yourself." Said someone behind Yibo.

Yibo turned around hastily, Xiao Zhan looked at him smiling. "You are Wei Wuxian?" Asked Yibo curious, nervous and excited.

"Yes I am. But please, keep this to yourself. I do not want this to become known. I like living in peace. I don't want fans or reporters at my doorstep." Explained to him by Xiao Zhan.

Yibo nodded eagerly. Xiao Zhan invited him into his workroom, where he wanted to discuss with Yibo the conditions for working as a personal assistant. Yibo followed Xiao Zhan to his workroom and thus to his inner sanctum.

Excitedly, Yibo looked around the room. It resembled many other workrooms, shelves, books, a computer. Nothing out of the ordinary. Apart from the apparently freshly printed and unread new book on the desk.

Xiao Zhan or rather Wei Wuxian was known as a writer of Boyslove books. Yibo had already read the book more than three times and would have liked to buy more books, but unfortunately he always lacked the money.

And although Xiao Zhan wrote Boyslove stories, they were equally popular with men and women. It wasn't a typical gay story, but something that was romantic, dramatic, warm, affectionate and very warm.

Yibo once read a review in which the author Wei Wuxian was praised. "He is someone who creates with such a story that the people who read it feel for the characters and touch their hearts. Each of his stories has its own charm and character and is always different from the story before it." It was in the article.

Xiao Zhan asked Yibo to sit. On the free chair opposite Xiao Zhan, Yibo sat down and waited for Xiao Zhan to explain the conditions to him. But somehow Yibo suspected that he didn't care at all what conditions Xiao Zhan would set. He would agree to everything if he could just stay close to these author.

Yibo thought that the feeling he had since he had seen Xiao Zhan for the first time that day was a friendly feeling. A very, very friendly feeling. Even though his head and heart told him otherwise.

But Yibo didn't want to let that feeling and thought get to him. In his twenty-two years he had never been in love before, but if he had, he wouldn't fall in love with a man, would he?
