Spiders, two of them scurried closer to the two elves who had dropped from the trees, weapons drawn.
Legolas released the first arrow. It whistled through the air and embedded into a beady yellow eye of the closet spider. The beast shrieked as another arrow pierced its massive head.
Dead.
Rhavaniel was beside him; her own arrows flew true into the bodies of the massive beasts. This was her first encounter with Mirkwood spiders, and she hoped her last. Their red and yellow countless beady eyes sent shivers down her spine. Not to mention there multiple hairy legs. Focusing on the task at hand, she released not one but two arrows that buried into the hated glowing eyes of a spider, and she smiled in satisfaction as it thudded to the ground in a heap.
Dead.
The sound of scuffling and creaking branches above them made both elves shift their eyes upwards. Both elves found themselves looking at the dark silhouette of an enormous spider creeping through its web.
Rhavaniel's eyes widened as the spider dropped from the branches, landing with a loud thud on the ground. Three more followed behind it and immediately their arrows flew.
Though their arrows slew the beats on sight, two more seemed to take their place.
Soon they were out of range as the spiders closed in. Legolas unsheathed his knives, and Rhavaniel her swords. They cast a glance at each other before diving into the beasts blade first.
Rhavaniel's swords slashed effortlessly into a spider's skull. She sidestepped to avoid the oozing stinger of another spider to her right. She spun back and sunk her sword into its neck, spattering its innards.
Unknown to her, a spider from the treetops was preparing to strike.
For some time now Legolas grappled with a spider. He brought up his knife to slash, but the spider's fangs seized it. Bringing up his second knife, he made a fatal strike, and it fell to the ground in a heap; his first knife with it.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Rhavaniel crashing to the ground; a spider above her, and its lethal fangs dangerously close to her neck. Without a second thought, he flung his dagger through the air.Rhavaniel didn't know how much longer she could hold off. The spider caught her by surprise and knocked her weapons from her hands in the process. She hit the ground before she could stop it. Her hand shot up and grappled with its enormous fangs that were large enough to snap her neck it two.
She couldn't hold on any longer...
Just as her body began to give up, a golden hilted dagger embedded into the spider's head, killing it instantly. Legolas...
She yanked the dagger free and lept to her feet before the spider's body collapsed onto her. She frantically searched for Legolas and found him struggling with a rather large spider. She hurled his knife and watched it soar into the spider's head.
