I had run into a nearby dense, wooded area so the guys lost track of me if they were following me. I slowed to a walk and I breathed out heavily due to being unfit. I yanked the backpack off my shoulder and reached in it for my phone. Once out I unlocked it and went to the contacts. I went to the dial icon and decided to try my brother after all. I dialed his relatively easy to remember number into the phone and held it to my ear as it dialed the number.
"C'mon, pick up." I said.
I was nervous for a couple of reasons. One was that my brother never usually picked up calls from unfamiliar numbers. Another was that he wouldn't want to help me like last time. Lastly, what if I choke up? I haven't spoken to him in years.
"Hmm Hello?" A sleepy voice answered the phone.
"C-connor?" I asked, voice shaky from nerves.
"Yeah, who's this?" He asked in a worried tone.
"I-it's y/n." I said.
Silence.
"Connor, please reply."
"Y/N why are you calling me...how are you-"
"Who's that sweetheart?" I heard in the background.
"M-my sister." He said quietly. I heard a gasp and murmuring.
"Y/N where are you, are you safe, why are you outside and out of breath at this time...? Are you okay!?" Worry took over his sleepy tone as he realized the time and my current whereabouts.
"I don't know, no, I'm being chased but it's a long story and because I ran away from the people chasing me. And no...no I'm not." I answered all his questions in one.
"Turn on your snap maps now Y/N. I will come find you." He said frantically.
I did as I was told, blocking Ethan and Grayson from the list of people who could see it. I could hear footsteps and uneasy breathing getting close so I picked up my pace and ran to the left.
"Please god don't let them find me." I whispered as I kept running.
My lungs felt sore and heavy as I slowed down again. I bent over to rest my hands of my knees as I tried to catch my breath. I still heard footsteps so used all my strength to climb a large tree. My arms shook from weakness, but I used all the strength I had. I managed to get decently high, with a quick way down in case my brother turns up and we need to run again.
I checked my phone, seeing hundreds of texts and phone calls from both brothers, but I deleted them off my lock screen. I heard twigs snap underneath me, so I looked down slightly and saw Ethan looking around.
I covered my mouth in an effort to minimise how loud my breathing was. He was looking around so worriedly, I felt bad...No! Do not feel bad Y/N. They were horrible.
Next I saw Grayson appear next to him, tears running down his face as he frantically wiped them away. They were talking but I was too high to hear. I let my curiosity get the better of me and I tried to slowly ease myself onto the branch below. I tried to put my whole foot on the branch but only my toes could reach it. I sighed as I knew I would have to let go and grab onto the trunk in order not to fall. I stupidly forgot it had rained earlier that day, so I didn't take into consideration the branch might be slippy.
Closing my eyes tightly I prepared to let go of the branch but before I could, it snapped. I let out a loud scream as I felt my feet slip off the lower branch and felt myself now free falling with my back facing the ground. It's going to hurt when I get down there. I frantically grabbed at twigs and branches in hopes of being able to grip it enough but nothing helped. My arms were being torn up by the tiny twigs sticking out of the branches. My ankle hit a thick branch causing me to let out a shriek of pain. I could sense I was getting closer to the ground so I prepared for impact and-
