Love

I sat by a girl today
On a bench by the lake
I looked at her only
To feel in my heart an ache.

I had just been left with
A question I had never thought
I decided to ask her instead
And see what to the table she brought.

She looked at me
With impatient questioning eyes
And I hesitantly asked
"Would you list all you love?"
Her suprise she did not mask.

Yet she played along
And started to list
All that was close to her heart
On and on the list went
Till she had nothing more to impart.

She listed off many things
Like her parents, brother and cat
Then her friends, her favourite stores
And in the end her art.

I decided to ask her, now
That she had completed her list
"You named a lot of things
But you name haven't you missed?"

She seemed quite taken aback
By the question I had laid
She stayed a bit longer thinking
Then hot up and went one her way.
....
I sat by a girl today
On a bench by the lake
I saw her looking at me curiously
Like I was a puzzling maze.

When I turned to face her
And ask her what it was
She hesitantly asked a question
I was not prepared for.

"Would you list of all
That you love?" She said
What a weird conversation
Where could this even head.

I thought I could ignore her
But then decided to play along
I started to list all that I adore
From my parents to my favourite store.

Satisfied with all I had said
Yet she softly asked
I had named quite a few things
But where in the list I was.

I began to think it through
I had never thought of that
Did I not live myself
I was frozen where I sat.

I collected myself and got up
With not much to say
As it was getting dark
I went on my way.

I had just been left with
A question I had never thought
I decided to ask someone, instead
Of letting it get to my head.

I noticed a girl standing
And staring into the dark
I quickly made up my mind
I went to her and asked.
