You and Scarlett stare at the door, startled. You could practically hear your heart thumping in your chest at the sudden thought of Tom behind the door. Who else could it have been at such an hour, right?

Scarlett breaks the silence by asking, "Do you think it's him?"

"Only one way to find out," you mumble, keeping your gaze locked on the door—silently hoping it was him, and that he was here because he had finally come to a realization that he wants you, and that he's finally choosing you. Pushing yourself to stand, you hear Scarlett protesting but you ignore her due to the curiosity now pumping through your veins. You didn't even take the time to peek through the peephole to check who it was, it was if it was just instinct that you knew it was him.

Your fingers wrapped nervously around the knob and for a brief second you stood completely still, silently praying that it was Tom and then and there, you had finally come to terms you finally wanted him, and that you somewhat wanted to work things out. Letting out a shaky sigh you twist the knob and step back to pull the door open.

There he stood.

You devoured the sight of him, taking in every exhausted detail etched on his features. He seemed to be deep in his thoughts and you wondered what could he possibly be thinking about that he had failed to notice your presence standing before him. You tilt your head to the side as you arch a brow in curiosity, waving a hand in front of his face to capture his attention, "Tom?"

Suddenly, you watched as he blinked a couple of times as if he had snapped out of whatever trance that he was in and finally meeting your eyes in recognition of your presence. You could have sworn there was a hint of warmth flooding his cheeks but you shrugged it off, curiosity getting the better of you and knowing the real reason why he had decided to grace his presence at such an ungodly hour deemed more important than some imagination.

"Tom?" you repeated yourself, it was as if he was still processing your presence before him; could it have been that he was expecting Scarlett instead of you? He did look as if he was shocked to see you all of a sudden. Well, this was Scarlett's place after all and he had probably wanted to discuss things with her over the tragedy of what happened at the party. "Are you here to see Scarlett? I could—"

He stops your sentence by taking a step forward, causing your heart to skip a beat at the sudden proximity, "No, I—" he cuts himself off at the sight of your tensed shoulders, clearing his throat as he retract his actions by taking a quick step back, "I'm here to see you."

Your lips curl up to a small 'o' shape as if to produce the word, 'oh' but all you could do was stay stiff in your spot. The both of you stood there, the air growing thick.

"I don't mean to be rude," Oh thank you, Scar! "But if you guys are going to talk, Tom you should come inside. I'll head to bed to give you both some privacy."

You watch as Tom sends a nod towards Scarlett's direction and you took a step back to widen the door further for him to enter the apartment, as he walked by—you couldn't help but catch the familiar scent that you've grown to love, it was the cologne that you had bought him back then, the thought instantly causes the corners of your mouth to twitch up to a small smile.

Shutting the door, you spun around to face Tom looking at you and you couldn't help the warmth that instantly flooded your cheeks. You flickered your attention away towards Scarlett's retreating figure, as she said, she would be giving the both of you privacy and suddenly you grew more nervous.

"Um," you cleared your throat, feeling your voice suddenly growing up to a higher register due to your bundle of nerves, "let's take a seat."

As you were about to head towards the couch that you had occupied a few moments ago, you feel his fingers wrap securely around your wrist to pull you back, and before you could comprehend his actions, he had wrapped his arms around you and you were pressed against his chest. You could hear his heartbeat beating louder and faster, you couldn't help but widen your eyes from the wave of shock that coursed through you.
