Chapter 31

~~~ Seven days later

"(No no no no, don't break them!)"

Lisa hurried to take the spaghetti out of Qiqi's hands.

"(But are too long!)" Qiqi held them next to the pot to prove her point.

Lisa took them and showed her how to cook them properly. "(A chef breaking spaghetti in two, you want people to lynch you.)"

Yunlan sat down and changed the channel since Lisa always left some music on. "What are they making?" He asked.

Wei sat down next to him. "I think spaghetti with oil, garlic and chili peppers. I'm not sure though. What's on tv?"

"I don't know, I'm looking for something decent. Too bad tomorrow they'll be at work, it's nice to live with two chefs who don't let you inside the kitchen."

He chuckled and Wei agreed. "Yes, it's great that the restaurant closes on Mondays, but Qiqi said that tonight they're going to make lasagnas, so we'll only have to eat it up tomorrow."

Yunlan's face beamed, he gave up on finding something else on tv and set it on the music channel again. He then lowered his head on Wei's lap.
"Wake me up when it's ready."

Wei smiled, opened the book he had carried with him and held it with one hand, while the other played with Yunlan's hair.

~~~ Seven days after that

Wei looked nervously at the computer, until he saw the sign of the incoming call.

"They're calling!" He told Yunlan and hurried to sit down but didn't answer yet.

Yunlan raised his voice yelling,  "(Action!)"

The girls ran forward, Qiqi sat down next to Wei and Lisa stood behind her with Yunlan.

Wei answered the call and his mother's face appeared on the screen.

"Scoot aside Yezun, let your father see the screen!"

"How are you doing son? Have you eaten yet?" The man asked.

"I'm good dad. Qiqi made a risotto today, it was delicious."
It wasn't necessary to explain the war that went on when Lisa and Qiqi cooked together.

"How is work for you and Yunlan?" His mom asked looking at the man behind him, then she added before waiting for an answer: "Yunlan, you look so thin, you should eat more!"

"Leave him alone, mom, I'm sure he eats enough..."

"Shush, your mom knows better!"

Yezun rolled his eyes and the conversation moved on, they updated each other on what had happened so far and Wei was glad to see that his father wasn't so tired any more.

His mother showered him with warnings like "Remember to eat well!", smiling approvingly at his, "Don't worry, Qiqi makes sure of that."

She exchanged a few words with Yunlan, very politely, then she even complimented Lisa.

Yunlan translated her words. "(She says you're very pretty with that red shirt.)"
"(Aww thanks.)" She said before remembering that the woman couldn't understand her, so she looked at the screen and blew her a kiss.

Wei and Qiqi answered a few more of their questions then they said their goodbyes, with Yunlan and Lisa waving from behind.

Wei switched off the computer and Yunlan yelled: "(aaaand... cut!)". They all laughed, QiQi stood up and went back to her girlfriend, tiptoeing to give her a kiss.
