Waking up again. It’s another day to face. I get out of bed, grabbing my water bottle and headed to the bathroom. Brushed my teeth, brushed my hair, washed my face and made my breakfast. You see, I live with my dad. My mom died when I was a baby. I never got the chance to see her. But there are a bunch of pictures of her in my dad’s room. My dad goes to work early and comes home around 5 PM. And I have an older brother that goes to college.

At school, I went to my first class. I sit at another table, far away from him. Carrie doesn’t have this class with him. Hah. This class was science and Science Fair was getting near.

Everyone took their seats but they continued to chatter until the teacher hushed all of us. I sat down at my seat quietly.

“Since science fair season is getting near,” the teacher prompted, “I decided to pair you guys up for it. Hopefully we’ll get things done quicker, everyone alright with that?”

No one said anything. So the teacher continued, “I’ll take that as a yes then.” Then she took out her list and added, “I’ve got a list of pairs for science fair. Once I call out the pairs, sit next to them and then I’ll hand out the assignment for your science fair project.”

I looked around at the people in the room. Who would I pair up this time? My best friend isn’t here. And I don’t talk to anyone in here. I’m nobody, practically. I hope I get paired up with a nerd though.

The teacher cleared her voice and adjusted her glasses. “First pair: Jonas and Nicole.” The teacher announced. Then she went on and on and on. She hadn’t said my name yet until the very end and I hadn’t been keeping track because I was only listening for my name. “And last but not least, last pairs are: Candy and Keith.”

          Wait… what?

“Now go sit next with your partner.”

Everyone scrambled to their partners. I slowly grabbed my backpack and walked over to Keith. This didn’t seem right. Was there some kind of mistake? I kept wondering. This would be the first time I’d get to sit close to him and most likely, talk to him!

As excited as I was inside, I acted all calm and peaceful. Then I plopped myself in my seat. I didn’t want to seem like I liked him or anything so then I decided to become calm and ignore my feelings. I mean, he has a girlfriend!

I greeted him like a normal person would. “Hey.”

He turned and tilted his head. His bangs hiding half of his face, he muttered, “Hi.” Then he looked away, his eyes ahead at our science teacher. I tried my best not to blush but I could feel that deep inside, I felt really hot. I’ve failed to mention that our science teacher’s name is Ms. Perry.
