"Winter, could you please pay attention to what Mr. Hanover is saying?" my mother tells me.This is ridiculous, I shouldn't have to move just because my parents are getting divorced. Why couldn't one of them keep our house? Why do I have to suffer just because they decided 'hey let's not live together or love each other anymore.' I hate this move.
"We have a great sports department here at Crosswell High." I hear Mr. Hanover say, "Just this past year our boys' lacrosse team went to the semi-sate level. We have an immense amount of school spirit here at Crosswell."
Crosswell is said about fifteen million times, I mean I understand that's the school's name but the amount this guy says it is ridiculous. It can't be that good here, it's high school.
"Well I am sure Winter is very excited about joining the Writing Club here, aren't you Winter?" my mother asks.
"I guess so" I reply.
"Well our english department is a great one to be a part of. Tell me, Winter, do you play any sports?" Mr. Hanover asks.
"Winter was a part of her old school's dance team, she made Varsity her Freshman year." my mother replies proudly.
I wish that I could just disappear into one of the classrooms right now. I don't want to join the dance team here. I want to go back to Colorado and be on MY dance team, with MY friends. I don't want to make new friends in a new state at a new school. I want my old life back.
"Well I will have to acquaint you with Mallorie Harper. Mallorie is in your year and on the Varsity dance team here." Mr. Hanover tells us. "When you come in tomorrow for classes I'll have her show you to your classes."
"Doesn't that sound great Winter!" my mother says.
I don't feel like meeting Mallorie or anybody. I want Natasha and Zoey. I want to sit on the lawn and gossip and go over routine in Zoey's basement. I want my old life back.
"Awesome."

I am sitting cross legged in my new room with its white walls and cold floor. I wish I was sitting in my old room. It was pastel pink with a hammock bed and picture collages all over the walls.
While in my sad thoughts my mom comes in and tells me to get painting clothes because we're going to Lowe's to pick up paint.
As we're looking at samples I see an overly attractive male behind the paint counter. Apparently my mom sees the same thing because she waves him over to us, giving me a mischievous smile.
"Hello, how may I help you?" he asks.
"Yes, thank you. My daughter and I just moved here and we're looking for a good color to put in her room. She has lots of pictures to put up, paintings too." Gee mom, give him my life story.
"Well we have a great selection of pinks and purples..."
"I was thinking black." I whisper, almost too loud.
"Winter!" Apparently not quit enough.
The guy laughs. "Well I was actually going to recommend this shade of brown."
"Brown?" I ask
"Yeah, this goes with about any bed spread and if you do have a lot of pictures" he says "then a color won't even matter."
"Winter, what do you think about that?"
"Fine, I guess."
" Great, I'll set this up for you right away." says the guy.
He goes behind the counter and starts to get the paint ready.
"Cute right?"
"Mother! Don't say someone is cute or not."
"Fine, just try to be social. Maybe he goes to your school." She says as she shoves me to the counter. "This may take a few. Winter will you please wait here while I go look at some carpet options."
I give my mom the best scowl I can and go look at more paint swatches. I'm looking at a blue one when paint guy starts talking.
"You're new then?"
"Yeah, moved last week."
"Cool. Uh, what school you going to?"
"Crosswell."
"I go there. Maybe I'll see you around sometime." He says handing me two one gallon paint cans.
"Maybe." And then I walk away, to the carpet section, planning the best way to kill someone without getting caught.

I take a good look at my newly painted room. I really hope that this guy is right after I put my pictures up on my walls.
"I'd say we did a good job for a couple of women, right?"
"I guess so."
"I know this move is hard on you, but maybe you could be a little bit more optimistic. You may learn to like it here."
I hope I don't. "Maybe."
I wonder how tomorrow will be without Natasha and Zoey to be with me. I don't even know what I will do. My phone rings then. I smile at the I.D.
"I miss you guys!"
"We miss you too!" I hear Natasha and Zoey say.
"How is it at the mountain? The slopes nice?"
"They're great, and the new ski lift guy is hot enough to melt the snow!" Zoey tells me.
"Good to hear you're still the same Zo. Nat are you and John still together, or are you on break again?"
"Well I really think it's over this time. We had a huge blowout and it started at Jessica De'Witt's party two days ago..."
I miss my friends so much. I miss hearing all the boy drama and school drama. I miss sleeping over at Zoey's and staying up past three laughing at whatever new trend we thought was ridiculous.
"I hope I get to see you guys soon."
"Us too."
"Love you guys."
"Love you too."
Then we hang up, and I cry myself to sleep the day before I have to start my new life.
