Whisper hit the ground as the girl laughed and pulled her sword out of him.
"And stay down!"
"WHISPER!" Qui cried, tears trickling down her face. Was he dead?
"Run...please....go..." He begged. She touched his mask. He extended a hand, which she put in hers. He dropped the gem that the girl previously had.
"Go...please....save them..." Hearts appeared in his eyes. She wept but slid the gem in a skirt pocket and stood. She bolted after grabbing the arm.
"Get back here, girl! You're going to leave your boyfriend to die?" She ran and ran until she collided with a big object. She felt it in the dark.
Nora.
She moved around it, weeping as she finally got to the end. She saw the light. But how would she get out? That woman had a sword and was somewhere in the tunnel. Qui wouldn't fit.
Or would she?
She forced herself into the hole, pushing rocks away. She made it and sprinted to the lab, to safety, away from the bodies.
"I'VE GOT IT! I'VE GOT IT!" She held the gem, standing next to her friend's cots. Patients looked up at her.
"What happened to you?" Arthkika asked quietly. The bard looked down at herself. Her skirt was shredded, her shirt was muddy, and her arms and hands were covered in blood. Her hair was half out of a lazy ponytail.
"I've got the magic gemmy thing!" She gave it to a scientist, who took it and left the room to boil it or some other sciency thing.
"Where's....Whisper?" The king asked. She gazed away.
"How did he go?"
"Swinging." She wiped tears away, smearing blood in her eyes. The doctors returned with a test tube of glowing fluid.
"Who killed him?" The king asked. He was upset. So were Zamista and Arthkika, but less so.
"This girl with a katana."
"Black?"
"Yes. How did you-" The doctors ushered her out and started using the vial on people. She felt nervous, then peeked back into the doorway.
"If I leave, I need a weapon!" The king mumbled something and a scientist gave her a spear before evicting her. Why did nobody care about the fact that she held an arm?
Oh well.
She felt like she was in a horror movie, waiting for the murderer to turn the corner and stab her. Qui held the weapon to her chest and the arm to her side, then started down the hallway to the throne room. It was empty. The only sounds were her footsteps and her frantic heartbeat.
And more footsteps that weren't hers.
She ran to the hole and threw herself into it, forcing her body into the gap and landing on the other side, feeling properly squeezed. Running away from the light, she was filled with terror.
The body hit her and she passed it before comprehending it. Soon, she was a green lit room that was all too familiar. Whisper's body was missing.
"Oh, I see you've returned for you boyfriend?" The girl asked, her katana being whirled around with a whoosh noise.
"Where's Whisper?" Qui demanded, holding her spear tightly and aiming the blade at her. She cackled.
"You want him so bad, don't you?" She teased. Qui thought about charging her and having her body dangle from the end of her spear. The thought made her smile. "What's so funny, little fool?"
"Oh, nothing." Her grip on the spear was so tight that her knuckles were white. She shook with anger. She finally charged, letting out an angry battle cry.
The two females fought, katana slamming into spear repeatedly. Although Qui had never gotten into a fight like this, she held her own. It was as if this woman hadn't been taught basic combat skills.
After an eternity of blades slamming, Qui was knocked to her knees. The woman kicked her onto her back and held the sword to her neck, one foot on her chest.
"What did you think fighting me would do?"
"Free.....him..."
"Is that a request or a demand? I'm not going to do it anyway."
"Why did you do this, you horrible-" She pushed her foot deeper into her chest, and Qui gasped.
"Why?" She sneered. "Why not? Your people are disgusting, pretending that your kingdom is better than the rest. However, everyone falls to the disease." She lifted her sword, ready to impale the bard. "But that doesn't really concern you, does it?" She was ready to stab the little elf. "Goodbye, bard."
"NO!" A blast of magic knocked the attacker off of her. Qui jumped to her feet, looking around. Who had done that?
Whisper was surrounded by floating cards.
"Is this your card?" He asked, the queen of hearts facing her. She smiled.
"It is."
"Then let's use it to the best we can, shall we?"
