Behind Everything...

Chapter 21

Veronica's POV:

It was Professor Greyson's class and all of us were provided with our partner. Professor Greyson gave us test tubes to test different chemicals which were given in our practical books and ask us to perform while he comes back from Mr Oscar's Cabin.

All of us were in pairs and as usual, I chose Jasper as my partner. Professor Greyson asked us to do the test on our own as he had already explained to us in the previous class. Every pair was busy doing their job except the pair next to us and I wasn't surprised and why would I? Afterall it was Christina who paired up with Tristan. She always pretends to be helpless and never misses any chances of getting close to any guy. 

"I'm too scared to handle all this. How can you manage to do all this?", the girl whom I hate the most said in her most annoying voice. The idiotic partner of hers replied in his sweetest voice, "I can handle everything, the only thing you need is concentration". I was not very much surprised at the fact that Tristan was her partner. 

Jasper must have too saw the two love birds, so he comments, "Looks like Christina got her new pet". I laughed at his statement but we were not aware of its consequence. The love birds heard us and the most annoying bird said, "Excuse me. What did you just say? I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you properly. Can you guys say aloud a bit?". "Isn't that obvious that we didn't say it aloud as we don't want you to hear it?", quickly I responded to my ex-best friend while giving her new boyfriend a smirk. "Looks like you've got a problem with that. Is it because of that Veronica is not coming with us? ". Tristan seemed not happy with his new girlfriend's reply but he chose to remain quiet. Christina knows too well how much this competition mean to me.

"No why would we have a problem with that? In fact, we're happy for both of you. I'm happy that you found the perfect match for yourself. And as for your kind information Veronica is coming with us", Jasper said with a smirk. I gave Jasper a confused look as I wasn't sure what he was saying but I chose to remain quiet. "What do you mean?", by the time, Tristan finally spoke. I was amazed to see Tristan shut up for so long. As far as I know, Tristan, he's a guy who's always ready to fight but this time he actually surprised me. "Oh! you talk!? I thought you only know how to laugh at people. Dude, just grow up and learn how to talk", Jasper said while indirectly reminding of today's afternoon incident when he and his girlfriend were laughing at Katherine. 

Jasper's statement made Tristan shut up. It seemed like he was embarrassed but Christina showed dissatisfaction. "Well from the last statement what I mean was Veronica will come with us no matter what". "I think you should grow up first. Being optimistic is good but overly optimistic is highly dangerous", Christina gave her fake sorrow smile. 

"And just by the way, I was wondering that how can you be so double-faced? You always stick around Victoria but today you just ditched her and made friends with Peter", Christina said while rolling her hands over her chest. "Oh you shouldn't have said this because you know, I have my eyes all over this place and you would be surprised but it won't take long for me to find out the things between John. It seemed like you guys had a good time together this morning in the hall". Clearly, Christina was surprised by Jasper's sudden reply.

Jasper is basically a nice guy with good humour and a very enthusiastic person. I've hardly seen him angry as he rarely gets angry but whenever he gets angry, the consequences are never good. Clearly, he was angry over the fact that Ethan bullied Katherine and he hates it very much.

Honestly, even I didn't expect that much from Jasper because as far as I know Jasper, he's good a bit sensitive and always tries to help people but still, he never gets into people's personal life unless that person is very important to him. I looked at him with as much amazement as Christina. Clearly, she didn't like Jasper's response to her but I was impressed by my best friend. As much Christina gave us the hatred look, Tristan gave Christina the most confused look as if he was still absorbing Jasper's words. 

The consequences of Christina's staying quiet are not always good as she always tries to do mischieve after that to let us down in front of the teacher's eyes. This is another reason why I get punishments. Due to my rebellion in nature and her being the granddaughter of the principal is always a boon for her. Before Tristan could say anything, Professor Greyson arrived.

"It looks like some people are really good with their tongues. Great, we can get a stage for them and can do debate competition.", Professor Greyson said with his deep and sarcastic voice. It was obvious that he was aware of my rivalries with Christina and somehow he also informed about the events that just happened a few moments ago. It always makes me on thinking that how come every time I had some fight or get into trouble, he always gets to know about this.

Professor Greyson is a mysterious man. I've always found him beautiful and I respect him a lot. He resembles dad and I love this as I miss dad a lot. Mr Greyson rarely talks to any other school staff members, the only person he talks to is Mr Oscar and that's too when there's an emergency or else Mr Oscar is the one who's always wanted to see him first.

As I was so lost in my dreams that I didn't realize that Professor Greyson was saying something. I was pulled back into reality as Jasper poked me lightly with his elbow. Soon I became alert but it was too late as Professor Greyson has already figured it out that I wasn't listening to him at all.

"So Miss Brown, are you even bother to listen to your teachers?", he said with the same sarcastic tone as he used before. "I bet you don't even bother to listen to your mother also, isn't it?".  By the time, I could see Christina's rising satisfaction from the corner of my eyes. "That's not true Professor", I protest. "Just cut the crap and let's proceed with the class", Professor Greyson said.

Before we start the class Professor gets a notification and quickly he replies to it and proceeds with the class. "Miss Brown, There is an important announcement for you. Mr Oscar wants you to pack up your bags as you're gonna participate in the Carnival".

What? Mr Oscar wants me in the Carnival?
