After walking for hours, Ashlyn and Rhoe arrived in Misthaven, just as the moon rose into the sky. They'd been fighting and training together, Rhoe teaching her how to use a sword while she blocked his walls of ice. Her back ached as she stepped out of the forest and onto a hill, overlooking a large field and the city.

The city was made of small rows of houses and cottages with a giant plaza in the middle. Around the plaza were hundreds of different types of shops, restaurants, and taverns, eager to serve hungry travelers. They'd find one tonight to rest in and then Rhoe would start teaching Ashlyn how to use a sword and master her power. Now that they were in Misthaven, Ashlyn could finally shift into her Fae form. But she didn't know how to.

Rhoe walked down the hill, Ashlyn trailing behind him. Instead of looking straight ahead, she stared at the sky above her and the millions of stars. She walked, mouth gaping at the twinkling beauties. Rhoe knew that feeling. He'd felt the first time he'd walked into Misthaven and seen the beautiful view. Even now, several years later, he still couldn't get over the sparkling ocean and peaceful city.

As a child and still, nowadays, he loved flying through the sky, loved the way the stars reflected off of his wings, making them look like they were wings of starlight. But he couldn't now, especially when his King's mate was in his hands. He couldn't no matter how much he wanted to."It's...it's..so beautiful." Ashlyn breathed from behind him. She walked a few steps before tripping over a rock. She tumbled down the hill until she reached Misthaven's paved road. The fire wielder groaned and picked herself up, grinning from ear to ear. Rhoe's breath hitched. By the god's she was beautiful in the moonlight. Even though her clothes were dirty and there was black Nightsinger's blood all over her shirt, she looked devastating. Devastatingly beautiful. Rhoe averted her gaze, blushing. She noted it and flung off her jacket, revealing her curves.

Rhoe practically ran down the hill, past her, Ashlyn giggling behind him. He strode into Mistheaven's streets, observing the balconies and the clothes hanging on clotheslines. He walked into one of the inns, Ashlyn trailing him."One room, please. A balcony too," he asked the owner."Why do we need a balcony?" she asked, peeking over his shoulder.Rhoe didn't respond, his cheeks flushing again. "Here is your key. Up the stairs and to the left." the innkeeper said while yawning. He scratched his head and rubbed his eyes.

"You should sleep, tomorrow is going to be a long day," Ashlyn said before walking up the stairs. Her steps were soft for the fire wielder didn't want to wake up the other guest. The innkeeper met Rhoe's gaze and noted his flushed cheeks. He chuckled and said:"Have fun with your wife." he winked and disappeared into his room. He slammed the door shut, leaving Rhoe alone in the dining room. "She's not my wife" Rhoe stuttered, well aware that no one could hear him. So Rhoe walked up the stairs and into the room, trying not to smile. ***Luna nestled closer to Nathen, trying to warm herself up. He pulled her closer into his bare muscled chest, as she tugged the covers over them. She'd spent half of the night discussing plans with Ashton and the twins that she'd nearly forgotten about Nathen. But luckily when she'd showed up his doorstep in the dead of night, he'd taken her in and given her what she'd wanted.

The night was quiet outside except for a few hushed voices and the night sentry's footsteps. Every night several sentries patrolled the city, killing anybody who roamed outside past curfew. But Luna knew when their shifts changed and where to hide if they ever saw her. Nathen groaned next to her as someone knocked on the front door. He mumbled a few quick words before getting up and putting on some pants. Luna watched him as he walked down the stairs and into his living room. "What do you want?!" he asked."Nathen Arington, you are under arrest for collaborating with the rebellion" a guard announced from the front door. "What! I did no such thing!" he yelled. Luna bolted up and rushed down the stairs in her nightgown. She reached the doorframe in time to the guards grab Nathen by the hair and drag him into the streets. Nathen trashed under their grip as they dragged him into the streets and dropped him in the center of the road with a thud. "Nathen!" Luna yelled, rushing towards him. Red flowers bloomed in her hair, the only indication of her fear.

"A message from your King. If you are a rebel or collaborate with you'll end up like this man." Luna's breath hitched. "Dead." The guard unsheathed his sword, the blade glinting in the moonlight. Luna raced out into the streets, crying. But she was too slow. The guard lowered his sword into Nathen's neck, his head rolling. The head rolled across the streets stopping at her feet, splattering her white nightgown. She couldn't breathe. Another loved one died in the streets, their head chopped off by the king's men. The guard sheathed his sword and stared at her.

"Stupid girl. Go home." he spat, walking away with his colleague. But Luna wasn't done. She rose to her feet, balling up her face, vines creeping from the ground. "Have you no shame, have you no remorse for what you have done?" her magic surged towards Nathen, trying to heal him. But she knew it was useless, no one has ever reattached a severed head back to the body. Vines cracked through the pavement, the plants from her neighbor's balconies, growing and reaching for the guards. "He was innocent. He did nothing wrong." The green vines kept on growing, more and more flowers blooming in her hair.

She pointed a finger at the guard and muttered an ancient curse. The guards turned towards her, meeting her gaze full of anger and fury. "When I came to the castle I made two vows. One to protect and heal the servants from your despicable King." The vines wrapped around the guard's legs and feet, slowly making their way up. A few villagers cheered as she flung her magic at the guards, the vines wrapping around the guard's throats. "And two, that one day I'd see the King dead." the vines squeezed, breaking the guard's spines. Once she was sure the two guards were dead, her vines retracted and Luna retired back to bed, chased by nightmares once again.
