"i-i didn't think you were gonna show up. i mean, i get it. it's scary. i just got in my head that-"

"carlos, relax. we don't have much reception on the farm. i wasn't planning on being late. i'm sorry," seb said, a sincere look in his eyes. he looked down, chuckled, and met carlos's eyes again.

"but at least our ties match."

carlos practically melted into the floor. he felt as though seb's smile could light up all of salt lake at this point.

carlos held out his hand as an invitation to dance. seb gladly took it, and carlos led them onto the dance floor. he pulled and spun seb into his arms, in which carlos earned a small squeak and giggle from seb.

the other couples didn't give so much as a second glance to them. the lights, the music, the everything about the setting fit the mood perfectly. you could hear quiet murmuring coming from everyone. it was perfect.

little giggles and jumps were coming from both boys. they were just so happy. content.

as they held onto each other, seb dipped his head down a little and whispered, "it wasn't a farm thing. i was out around town looking for a tie that matched yours. i'm sorry."

carlos was taken aback. someone really went through all the trouble to find a to match his.

carlos bent his head up slightly and said one sentence. one sentence and it shot what felt like electricity through both their bodies. seb's because it got him all fuzzy inside, and carlos's because he was surprised he had the guts to say it.

"i know you said you didn't want to be late, but you look amazing, and i'm trying not to kiss you senseless right now."

seb got choked up on his breath, and carlos bit his lip. seb regained control and silently took carlos's hand and brought him outside behind the school.

once outside, seb looked around quickly to make sure no one was watching, then swiftly pulled carlos by the lapels of his suit jacket and gave him a firm kiss.

after they pulled apart, seb said, "there. icebreaker. now 'kiss me senseless' or whatever."

and that's exactly what carlos did.
