It had been two days since the discovery of the bodies and the town were in panic mode. "Could we have a killer on the loose? Who's next? Whatever will we do to prevent something like this ever happening again?" Deep down nobody knew. Sheriff's were on the case, investigating day and night while the people spent their time commemorating the lost and consoling the grieving. These were dark days for Haven.
Deputy Granger the White Knight of Haven, a well respected man with a remarkable reputation, was lead on this case and had come up with many theories as to what had happened to the boys. Ranging from serial killer to gang attack - considering the murder appeared to have taken place on Foglet turf - but no solid conclusion had been met just yet.
Questions were aplenty, with various news outlets including our very own Haven Hill Almanac asking the question on everyone's mind, "Is it possible that gang crime is making a comeback in our fine town?"
Well given the recent riots in town, I would have to say yes. Foglets were the primary suspects given the murder being on their land but why? After so many years dormant, why would they decide to murder two young boys?
Pleasure? Anarchy? Any personal motives?
Their involvement was unclear if even present at all.
Deputy Sheriff Granger thought it would be best to find out why the boys were in the woods.
Sharon Stone, ex girlfriend of Harry, had said he mentioned a party in the woods while Jennifer Olsen had said that Marcus was meeting up with Brody Rogers, one of his best pals from a neighbouring school. Two drastically different stories. Who was telling the truth? Maybe they were both lying.
Next the parents were questioned, the Dolls told the Deputy that Marcus was was meeting an old friend from another school (presumably this Brody boy) and the Bowers told him that their boy was at a Halloween party. It appeared that the girls knew as little as the families themselves and Deputy Granger was just as lost as he was to begin with. He had reached a blockade. One so unbreakable, it would take a miracle to penetrate.
One morning the sheriff had gotten his miracle, even if it wasn't the clear thought at the time.
He had just woken up, snuggled in bed with his wife Candice. The kids were downstairs getting ready for school with the smell of burnt toast spoiling the air. There was Holly, his daughter, aged 14 coming on 15, and his son Gus, just a year younger than his sister. Holly had radiant blonde hair like the sun,she was wearing a blazer with a skirt and leggings. Gus was wearing a neatly tucked shirt with dark skinny jeans. Granger came downstairs to wish them a great day at school but they had already gone. He ended up cleaning the scraps they left behind then went on switch the kettle on before noticing an envelope on the floor, by the front door. He walked over to the door, yawning loudly as he picked it up. It was addressed to him. He opened it, tearing the top of the envelope to reveal a note. As the kettle boiled, Granger stood still staring at the note, hand beginning to shake and sweat quickly covering his forehead before he dropped the note, hyperventilating where he stood before passing out to the floor.
What was on the note and why did this stress out the White Knight of Haven so much? Was it the killer? All will be answered in due time.
