"Everything is going to be fine."I said, looking through the bus window as I tried to calm myself down. I'm going to find a place to stay, start a new job and meet new people so there is nothing for me to worry about.
I said to myself as I try to calm myself down. I quickly pull my phone from my pocket to check if there were any noficatications from two person I've loved the most which is my mother and my girlfriend, jieun.
Sadly there's no messages from neither of them, I sigh as I thought to myself,
"Maybe they're busy.. I will give them a call them later."
I took out my earpierce and listen to music to calm myself down as I was feeling quite nervous as this is my first time heading to seoul. Now the reason why I'm moving to seoul is because one of my senior, Shin Jae-Ho from college started a new company and decided to take me in and hire me as an intern.
I couldn't believe it at first but I was thankful and happy of course as I had a hard time looking for job for a few months now and not only that, I finally meet jieun who is also currently working in seoul.
As soon as I arrived in seoul, the first thing that I did was to look for apartments. I was not surpised by the high rent prices as I went viewing each rooms from three different places in seoul and of the rooms were comforfable, spacy and nicely decorated.
But what do I expect? of course the price was going to high and I know that I couldn't afford to pay the monthly rent knowing that I only have 500 hundreads left in my bank account. Yes, I'm that broke.
After declining the third apartment, I was getting tired and starting to lose hope as I scrolls through more and more apartment listings of the same pricing.
Suddenly it was at that moment my eyes caught an advertisement for a cheap room for rent called goshiwon in an apartment building called 'Eden Studio' in a city an hour or so away from Seoul. Without wasting anymore time, I quickly took a train and head towards the Eden Studio. Without knowing that it will change my life forever.
If u asked me to give three words to describe my first impression about the apartment, my answer is going to be short and simple which is what the fuck.
Eden turned out to be a very different apartment building from all the previous ones that I had visited before. Where the apartment buildings before were all lit up and clean, Eden was dingy, dark, musty and dirty.
I started to wonder if there is anyone even staying here considering that this place is really horrible, I mean it's probably the worse apartment I ever seen in my life and I'm not even exagerating.
"Ah, are you the boy who called just now?" an old lady greeted me, I'm guessing she is the landlady.
"Yes that's me. I see your rent listing, is it still available?"
"Yes!"
"It's 190 per month right?"
"Yes of course. Come, follow me! I will show you the room"
"Okay..." I said and nodded as she bring me to my room number 302.
She took out the keys and unlock the door, to my surprised I was shocked to see the state of the room. There is one single bed, small window and a study table where I can put my stuff on it but the room is so small, so small that I think the room can only fit two people and the room looked like it has not been cleaned up for a long time as there were dust everywhere in the room.
"It's nice isn't it? you can't find a room with only much that in seoul" the lady said as she smile at me.
After that, she give me a full tour of the entire apartment building that I decided that even though I was tight on money, I should not lower himself to this level. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting and unkempt, with communal showers and kitchen that looked grimy and haven't seen a scrub and soap in years.
I decided to reject the offer of living here and find other place to stay as I have a odd feeling about this apartment and this place is shit. I left before the landlady could say anything to me and as soon I was outside the apartment, suddenly at that very moment one of the wheels of my luggage broke and roll down the hill.
"Fuck..." I said and loudly sigh. At this point, I'm like fuck it. I don't really have a choice as I am short of money and this is the only place that I can affort. I'm running out of energy and I really need a place to stay. I quickly went back to back to Eden Studio as it is getting late and I'm running out of energy as well.
"Here your keys! don't lose it" she said while handling the room keys to me.
"Thanks. By the way, what happened to the previous owner who lives in my room?"
"Oh don't worry, the previous owner commited suicide"
"What????"
"Why? are you scared?"
"No- Nevermind I'm going to my room and sleep. I'm tired." I said politely and walk towards to my room, without realising that I accidentally bump someone who is coming out from his room unit, 312.
"Aish! watch where you're going" the man said, before walking away. He is probably in his 40's. He look very intiminating and dress like thug.
"Aigo, this guy always creating trouble. Don't worry he will be gone soon."
