The next day the Cavazos family mansion was a rush of action as it was the day of the family dinner, both Leo's and Violets families were going to be there as well as the wedding party. Although it wasn't my job to arrange the sit-down meal I had been involved in ordering the flowers and planning the meal with Violet.
It was important to Violet that this dinner went smoothly as it was the last time everyone would be coming together before the wedding rehearsals, she was adamant that this was important to her.
So the kitchen staff were busy cooking a three-course meal that Violet had changed four times in the last week and the maids were setting up the dining room and living room, it was everything Violet had picked out from the flowers in and around the rooms to the cloth napkins and table settings.
So Violet was coming down every hour making sure everything was going smoothly and hovering over everyone, you could feel when she came to the main part of the house as suddenly everyone would look busy even if there was nothing to do because if you were caught standing in one place for too long she would quickly make a comment about someone being lazy or something that still needed doing.
Although every time she came downstairs something about her would change, first thing this morning she came down in her pyjamas to find the staff giving everything a deep clean then she went up to shower, then she came down in something more comfortable while holding her hands out in front of her and walking funny because she had just had her nails painted.
At that point, the florist we had ordered were putting fresh flowers throughout the house.
Then she came downstairs with her hair in rollers nearly scaring the life out of me when she appeared behind me, that was when she made the first comment about the number of flowers not being enough even though there was more than enough possibly too many.
Roberto, of course, was following me around as I gave orders to his staff, I could tell he wasn't best pleased with me. He had been in on all the conversations Violet had about this dinner and the planning that went towards it so he could tell the staff what they needed to get and do for the day and now here I was taking over making sure it went smoothly like Violet had asked me to.
Deciding everything was nearly done and I needed to do some other work I excuse myself telling Robert I will leave everything else in his trusted hands trying to get back into his good books before heading towards my room.
I'm at the bottom of the stairs when I hear my name being called by Regina.
"How can I help?" I ask as she walks towards me.
"I just wanted to make sure everything was clear about where you would be during the dinner, I understand you have to eat yourself but I will have Roberto have a member of staff take a plate of food up to your room, I hope you understand it's just because it's a family occasion." She's sure to announce family firmly to me.
I'm guessing this is because Roberto has told her about my late arrival with Enzo and my casual dress yesterday, Regina expected someone like Violet for both her children. Someone who knows about the family secrets who's not going to turn up their nose or interrupt on her children's family. Someone who had known this family for generations and could be trusted without having to think about it.
And I was not that person so to her right now I was stepping on her toes and she was putting me in my place.
"Oh, of course, I was just going to spend the rest of this afternoon and evening in my room making sure everything for the wedding is going smoothly, the tables and chairs will be arriving tomorrow actually I don't know if Roberto told you about that," I tell her acting like what she's said hasn't bothered me, I wasn't planning on coming downstairs anyway. I knew this wasn't my place and had planned a lovely evening in my room with a bubble bath.
