I woke to the smell of antiseptics. My eyes burned as the afternoon sun washed into them.
Crisp white sheets draped over me. I sat up to see where I was. The room was starch white. A heart meter and IV sat next to the bed I sat in.
I must be in a hospital.
The remote that sat on the bed next to me had many buttons on it. I fumbled with the buttons until I found the button to call a nurse.
Shortly after the same nurse who helped me at the crash greeted me. "Hello Alice. I'm so glad you're awake." I smiled as he sat next to me. "How are you feeling sweetheart?"
I shrugged, "I'm okay." I was brought back to the scene before. My eyes washed over but I refused to let any tears fall.
"Where are my other friends?" I asked quietly.
The nurse smiled. "They're in the rooms next door. Don't worry they're up and well."
I sighed with relief.
A woman in her mid thirties entered the room. A huge grin held on her face as she shook my shaky hand. "Hello I'm Doctor Mathews. You must be Ms. Alice." I nodded shyly.
She began to enter a series of questions that I quickly answered without thought. When she was finished she gathered her papers and stood from her seat.
"Well Alice I'm sure you would like to see your friends." She said from the doorway.
"You mean Niall and Mckenzie?" I asked. I was surprised they were out of bed so quickly. Especially Mckenzie.
She laughed lightly, "No sweetheart, they're both still in bed. I believe his name is," she paused a moment to think of their names, "Alex? No that's not it, Austin?"
"Ashton?" I interrupted. I began to get excited butterflies when she nodded. "Yes, I want to see him!" I exclaimed.
She walked out of the room laughing. Within a second Ashton darted into the room. He scooped me into his arms, holding me tight against his chest. I smiled into his shirt.
When he let go I exclaimed, "How'd you get here! How did you know where I was?"
"Niall texted us before he got into the ambulance. I ditched the plane." He laughed to himself, "Everyone is probably going to kill me when I get back but I don't care."
I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I was so fucking happy to see him.
He sat gently next to me. "A lot of shit is happening Alice." His tone suddenly became serious.I sat up straighter. "What do you mean Ash?"
He shrugged, "They don't want you to tour with us anymore."
"WHAT?" I yelled. "Who's they!"
"Management I guess." Ashton replied. He fiddled with his fingers.
I brushed my fingers through my hair. I did all I could not to scream and throw the lamp, that sat on a table, across the room. "What the fuck." I grumbled. Ashton laughed and nodded.
"I missed you Alice." Ashton mumbled.
I smiled, "I missed you too." I actually was scared out of my mind and had too much happening to be able to think only of him. But I always miss him when we're apart.
"Can we talk about something?" Ashton asked quietly.
I giggled, "Of course Ashton!"
"Well, I'm gonna start by saying you scared the shit out of me." I laughed in response. "And I love you Alice."
