Character 1 works with finding and rescuing animals in abusive situations, mainly animals used for illegal fighting/gambling rings. One day, they come across these animals in action, and step in when the animals begin getting roughed up.
They attempt to take the animals they rescued that day to a shelter where they can get treated and put into a better situation. The shelter has enough space for all but one of the new rescues.
Character 1 takes one of the animals in and brings them home. They take the animal into their room and leave them for a minute to go get something before cleaning up the animal themselves.
They come back, and Character 2 is sitting there, wearing Character 1's clothes. They looked absolutely horrible from the fight.
"Thanks for getting me out of there..." Character 2 says.
