Kat Jones slammed her head onto her desk, frustrated as all get out. She had been following her lead on Black Noir for weeks, and her anonymous tip had just become another dead end. The man was a mystery, and she was beginning to believe that she'd never find anything out about the Supe's identity.

Kat was an investigative reporter and a barista on the side. Well, at this point it looked more like being a barista was her main job, but being a reporter was her dream. Kay's main focus was getting information on the mysterious people who made up a small percentage of today's population: Superheroes. Like most "normal" people, Kat wanted to know how they came to be. She had already worked her ass off to get recognized by others trying to expose the truth, but looked like finding the new would be the harder part.

Vought and other similar companies weren't exactly pleased with the people trying to get information on their precious supes, so Kat tried her best to be careful. She wasn't big enough to even be on their radar yet, but she kept her identity a secret anyways. Kat went by the alias "Bly," which she had chosen from the famous investigative journalist Nellie Bly.

A notification suddenly chimed from her open laptop, disturbing her thoughts. Kat lifted her head, somewhat intrigued as to who it could be. It looked like an email from one of her friends in the business. She clicked on it, and saw that "Coal," who frequently gave her their tips that they thought weren't important enough, had sent her a link. It was to an article describing Translucent's sudden absence from the spotlight. Kat never really kept up with the Seven as other people, but she understood that his disappearance was unusual. Returning to the email, she expected to see some more details on where she was supposed to look for this hero, but instead found nothing.
How was she going to do anything with this? Kat tapped out a reply, "What was the point of sending me this, there's nothing for me to go off of here." After pressing send, Kat left the room to go make herself a cup of tea. It was the least she could to to try and relax.

Suddenly, her laptop began ringing. It was a video call from Coal. She answered the call, and Coal wasted no time getting to the point. "I guess if you don't want to look into the Translucent thing, I might have another offer for you."

"And what would that be?" Kat sighed impatiently. She was beginning to believe that she wasn't cut out for this lifestyle after the last fiasco.

"First of all, download all the programs I'm sending you. It was almost too easy tracking your IP address, and Vought will have an easier time than I had getting in." He said, her computer chiming in, indicating that she received them.

"Are you serious? Invading my privacy much? And I don't think I'm even on the radar of anyone in the big leagues yet, especially not Vought." Kat reluctantly downloaded the programs, seeing that they were mostly for protecting against viruses and other malware.

"If you take this opportunity I'm about to hand you, you're definitely going to be." Coal said. Kat was confused, why was Coal giving her this big of a chance if he could easily taken it himself?

"I'm sure you've heard everyone going on in the news lately with Starlight," Coal continued, not even waiting for a rely from Kat, who was too stunned to say anything. "Turns out they've picked her side over the whole thing instead of The Deep's. They shipped the pervert out to Sandusky, Ohio. And if I'm not mistaken, you worked a few summers at the Sandusky Aquatic Animal Hospital and Aquarium." She hadn't heard that mouthful of a name in a lot time, but she suddenly realized why she was a part of this plan.

"I see you've done a full background check on me." Kat said, defeated. She quickly understood what Coal wanted. "But why are you sending me there? He's one of the Seven, it would be almost impossible to get anything out of him."

"That's where you're wrong. Vought is shunning him at the moment, and I can only imagine that he's bitter as hell about it. Plus, since he's farther away from Vought headquarters at the moment, they're more likely to slip up." As Kat thought about the idea more, it started to make more sense.

"So you really think this could land me a big break? After that Black Noir bullshit I'm pretty tired, not gonna lie." Kat said.

"Relax, if this turns out badly you can blame me. The client that's hiring me is desperate for whatever we can get, so at least we'll get paid this time." Coal said, trying his best to lock her in.

A few moments passed while Kat was deciding her options. It would be safer staying in town for a little bit, but the chance to finally advance what little of a career she had wasn't something she could afford to lose.

"Alright. I'm in. What do you need?"
