It burnt my lips as I sip the water. I don't even take it in as fast as I pour it into my mouth, letting the water trickle down my throat. It obviously gets everywhere. I'm just not used to it.
It's been a full week after I left. I ran, from home, they'd never understand me. But I know they'll keep trying to find me. I know they will, Oregon is small.
This is the only way they can't find me.
They'll expect me to climb into a taxi, or a car, drive as far as I can. I didn't.
I closed my eyes as I try to visualise the way my family used to be before the incident that followed the last. The only people who still care about me might be my cousin, who lives far far away, but who knows if I'll ever see him again. I've only ever seen him once in the 18 years I've lived.
Looking around me, I realise how quiet it is. The dark sky, filled only with stars, and the birds chittering on the branches of the tall trees. They're watching my every move, as I lean on a tree, next to a flowing stream.
Somewhere in the distance I can see light, and feel it too. Wherever it comes from, it shouldn't be too far, it'll be close enough.
Close enough for me to keep going. It's worth it.
Just you wait. I'm coming.
I shivered in the cold, and started to pick up my pace again, it feels like hours until I can see it clearer.
It's closer now, nearer, I can feel the warmth on my face, that I had been lacking since I fled my house.
It's a sign, a big board, and I realised that I've reached a highway.
I hold onto my left arm with the right one, and see in big words:
'Welcome to Reverse Falls'
I can feel my lips crack, a tinge of a smile on my face appearing.
I wonder what happens next.
I know it's so bad for me to start a freaking story while I'm just discontinuing other stories and starting other ones, but I'm gonna try and keep this under 15 chapters, not sure if it's gonna work but we'll see!!
