'What's a dumb blonde like you doing out alone on a Thursday night?'

The male voice startled me, and for a moment I thought it could've been Gideon, but it was deeper, apparently not then.

'What?' I looked around and saw a guy standing at the edge of the dock.

With the sunset going on at the front of me, I could just see his face, whoever he was, he didn't go to my school. I'd recognise a face like his. This guy must have followed me over here, was he some sort of guy working for my parents to make me go home? Do we even have enough money for that?

'Your blonde hair is probably bleached, right? What are you doing here by yourself?' He asked, starting to walk in my direction.

'E-excuse me? My hair is not bleached!' I put the cupcake down and said aggressively.

'Let me guess. Hmm...Schwarzkopf? Revlon? Oh, wait, is it Garnier?' He chuckled. He was dangerously close to me.

'My hair isn't bleached! Or dyed! Stop right there!' I shouted to him, he stopped dead in his tracks as I shoved a warning finger in front of me and got up to see who he was better, then I started walking closer to him.

'Okay.' He put his hands on his hip and huffed.

'Who are you? Are you working for my parents? What are you doing here? Did you follow me?' I blurted out all the questions I had for him and stopped a good metre away from him.

'One, name's Dipper. Two, no? Three, can't a guy just take a walk? Four, absolutely not?' 'Dipper' answered all my questions in the order I asked them.

'Alright, 'Dipper'.' I put air quotes when saying his name. 'I guess it's settled then, go away.' I shooed him away from the dock. 'The spot's taken.' I pointed to the cupcakes and blown out candles.

'Your birthday today?' Dipper asked, ignoring my comments and walking forward to me.

'I told you to go away!' I pointed my finger away from the dock.

Instead, he brushed past me and made his way to the edge of the dock where I sat before.

'Kind of sad, a pretty girl like you celebrating a birthday alone?'

'Pretty? Who are you to say something like that? Leave now! You aren't welcome, whoever you are Dipper!' I called out to him, trying to fight the intense blush spreading through my face. No one has called me pretty ever, especially a boy.

(a/n: sure if u say lmao but ok)

I think he had a tendency for ignoring things he didn't want to hear.

'Now, I'll make it better for you. a pretty guy like me can spend his time with you, giving you some company. How about that?'

'No!'

'You know you're just lonely out here. All alone. And what's the big deal? It's not like I'm a 50-year-old man trying to drug you.

'Hey! Don't joke around like that!' I pouted. Dipper seemed quite determined to spend his time at a worthless birthday like mine.

We sat down and the dock, and sat just far enough to talk but not touch.

'I feel like you're new here, would I be right?' Dipper said, after we stared at the setting sun for a while. Then, he looked down at the cupcakes I put down earlier and took one of them.

'Sure, I guess you are right.' I smiled, I felt my pockets and screamed internally at myself for not bringing my phone. I didn't even have a watch to tell the time, not even my phone. I bet I must have left it in the Mystery Shack, how was I gonna go back now.

I sighed. 'What are you sighing for? It's your birthday, don't you have any friends?' He cackled softly. on closer inspection, I'd also accept the fact he called himself a pretty boy, but someone like him would never be friends with me.

'No, as I said, I'm new.' I replied to his question.

'Then I'll be your friend.' He said as if he was answering my own question.

'I can't haha.' I giggled, and when faced with the question of why.

I simply said, 'My life is set out for me, I can't even go to the dream university in California. Who knows how long I have here?' After that, I took my shoes off and dipped my feet in the water.

'I won't comment on that but don't you have friends at school?'

'No, and I have a bad feeling this girl wants to make my life here even worst.' I replied to each of his questions calmly, looking down at the water.

'Tell me about her.'

'She got long wavy hair, it's like everything I want. Ugh. And she's always wearing this stupid headband, I saw her in sport and in at lunch. The headband has got this big old stone stuck on it. It's honestly ugly, not a fashion accessory for me.' I then pretended

(a/n: idk if telling him that is a good idea lol, u do u sis)

'Oh.' He managed to say after a silence. Maybe I've made someone uncomfortable again, I pushed someone who could've been friends with me.

'Yeah.' I nodded my head a few times.

Next, he asked me: 'So why are you here in Reverse Falls?'

'I ran away.' I mumbled inaudibly. I didn't need a stranger to know about my life story the first 30 minutes they know me.

'Pardon?' He looked at me worriedly. It was weird how he looked at me, like he already knew my life story, like he could see right through me and know what I did.

'I ran away from home, that's all.' I repeated myself. 'I have a cousin here, I know he'll take care of me, but I can't stay here forever, it's not like I can live out here without my parents sending for someone.'

'I see. That is quite a situation all right.'

'I know. I don't really know how I'm supposed to celebrate with all this going on.' I added to my last reply. 'There's this feeling that no matter what I do, it will all come down to me having to go with my parents' wishes, and I don't want that. I really don't.'

I hadn't realised I had lashed out at nothing when I said what I did. I instantly covered my mouth but then Dipper reassured me. 'It'll be fine, trust me. Anyways, you know my name but I don't know your's. Tell me, or how can I celebrate your birthday without knowing your birthday.'

Dipper took the cupcake and the candle on it into the water, letting it just floating away after hitting the waves. He then took off the wrapper and took a bite. I looked at the one I held for a really long time.

'Wait a second... I never said you could my cupcakes!' I wailed loudly, if anyone was nearby, I was sure they would've heard in a miles' radius.

"But you still haven't answered me, what's your name? Maybe we can be friends?'

'Oh. My name? It's plain old Pacifica Pines.'
