My Country is Burning

20 2 1

This poem was written during the 2019 revolution of Lebanon, which is still happening today. It is directed towards the ministers and parliament as a whole. If only they would listen...
I wrote this poem in my native language (Arabic) and then translated it to English.

My country is burning
It has been this way for 30 years
Why? Why are you doing this to my country?
Lebanon gave you identity, it gave you safety.
Lebanon gave you a home, it gave you a life.
So why are you giving nothing to Lebanon?
Its land was burned, its forests were cut down
And the ministers stole from its people.
My country is now ugly because of you
My country is now sad.
The people are now separated from one another.
Enough corruption! Enough pain! Enough sadness!
Enough stealing and filth and lies!
My country is burning
And it's time to put out the fire.
