Up to the days leading to my birthday I had sustained eight new bruises all but two are visible.
On my birthday I woke up really early around 7 am and started to get dressed. I was so excited I couldn't stand it. I side braided my hair tying it with a green velvet bow that was my mothers. I put on dark blue jeans and a black shirt that was covered by my black hoodie.
By the time I was ready it was 8 am and I was still too excited to calm down. I packed my trunk, that was again my mothers although it looked new, to the brim including my little doll, Ann Marie, which was my mothers. Almost everything I owned was my mothers including a decorative stick that looked like a wand from my story book, which I put in my pocket. I did have one thing of my fathers, it was a small black watch that I wear everyday including today.
At nine I walked outside and started doing my normal gymnastics moves, such as tumbling and cartwheels. A movement caught my eye as I was in the middle of a cartwheel and ended up having to pull the most dangerous gymnastics move to avoid a collision with a sand box. I spun in the air then landed on my feet and stuck my hands up in the air at my own amazement of what I did.
I heard clapping and turned excitedly hoping to see the man. But that excitement quickly turned into fear, it was Derek. He looked menacing as his clapping turned into knuckle cracking and then walking towards me. I backed up into the fence feeling my hands shake in fear. There is no where to run, even if I could I couldn't out run him.
He took another step and I could feel my heart in my throat. Derek balled his fist and reached back. Bracing myself I scrunched my eyes closed and put my hands up trying to shield myself. The first blow landed on my abdomen and I fell to the ground as the breath quickly went out of my lungs. I heard yelling but I couldn't hear it I was crying in a ball waiting for it to be over.
A loud thump interrupts my crying opening my eyes I see Derek lying on the ground completely still. Shaking I stood and wiped my eyes. The man comes up to me taking my shoulders, "Are you okay?"
"Y-yes."
"What happened?"
I shrugged not meeting his black eyes, " I-i don't know. H-he did it for n-no reason."
He released one shoulder and said, "Come."
Together we walked up the stairs to the orphanage. He opened the door to the living room at which we walked in.
"Go get Lana."
I did as I was told and ran upstairs and dragged a protesting Lana downstairs, "Oh hello, I am Lana Clarkson would you like to see any of the children?"
He pointed a stick at her, "obliviate." She sat down on the couch with a blank unseeing stare. He walked closer to her bent down and whispered in her ear something I couldn't hear.
He hurried out the door, I followed as fast as I could, down the steps, and we stopped on the side walk. "Grab my hand and do not let go." I grabbed his warm hand and his grip tightened on my hand. I felt like someone was pushing me through a too small enclosed slide. I gasped and a very sour taste hit my tongue which made my face scrunch up.
He looked down at me and laughed coldly before releasing my hand. "Follow me," he said walking towards a shop that I couldn't see the sign of because of my short height.
A woman rushed up to us, "Oh hello, hello, a Hogwarts student, Severus?" Her happiness seemed to flow off her making me smile as she took my hand leading me up a little round stage where she measured my height. The man she called Severus stayed in the corner looking at his stick.
"What's your name, darling?" She asked in her cheery voice.
"Jesse Ann Snape-"
She cut me off with a gasp and said, "I never knew Severus had a child."
