Amy stared at the two lines on the stick. Pregnant. She was pregnant. This was happening again. She heard voices coming from down the hall and she panicked. Throwing the positive pregnancy test carelessly to the floor, she ran out of the bedroom, down the hall and found a nice closet tucked away where she hoped no one would look for her. Her fears of being beaten by Bucky for carelessly getting pregnant clouded her judgement and the logical part of her brain that knew he would never hurt her. Into the closet she went, to the farthest corner where the longer coats (probably belonging to Dr. Strange) would hide her.
Bucky came into the room looking for her and not seeing her around, he went into the bathroom. He saw the pregnancy test on the floor and picked it up. He saw that it was positive and smiled widely but it dropped almost as fast as he realized that she had probably hidden in fear.
"Where's Amy?" Bucky asked as he entered the living room area.
"No idea," Natasha answered as did Steve and Tony.
"We gotta find her, I think she's hiding."
"Why would she be hiding?" Steve asked. Bucky held up the pregnancy test.
"She's pregnant." Everyone stood in shock for a moment. Bucky looked down at the two pink lines on the stick. "I never thought...I didn't..." Bucky was overwhelmed with emotion and a smile spread across his lips while he shed a tear. Steve walked up to him with a "congratulations" and a pat on the shoulder. Bucky responded with the normal "thank you" and smile back but quickly came back to Earth.
"We gotta find her," Bucky said once the shock of knowing he was going to be a dad wore off a little bit, "She's probably thinking I'm gonna be mad at her or something." They began looking through every closet, cabinet and under every bed. Strange eventually emerged from his own room, catching Bucky's eye with a small wave of his hand and a whisper.
"I went to get a coat to start looking outside and I noticed some toes that weren't supposed to be there," he chuckled quietly, "she's towards the back of the right hand side of the closest." Bucky thanked him and patted him on the shoulder before walking into Strange's room. When he moved the coats away from where Amy was hiding, he could finally see her. She had her knees drawn up to her chest, her arms were wrapped around her knees and her head was tucked between her arms.
"Oh sweetheart," Bucky breathed and Amy looked up at him, tears in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I didn't mean to get pregnant! I'm so sorry!" She tried backing up further into the closet but couldn't. Bucky dropped to his knees and pulled her into his arms, shushing her fears away the best he could.
"You have nothing to apologize for doll," Bucky whispered as he stroked her hair, "I've never been happier!" She pulled away from him to look into his eyes. She searched for a lie there but she couldn't find one.
"You're happy about this?" Amy questioned.
"Yes," Bucky replied, cupping her face with his hands, "beyond happy sweetheart. I never thought I could have children. I've never been happier." He kissed the top of her head tenderly then looked down and put his metal hand to her stomach, "I promise you that I will protect both of you with my life, no matter what it takes." She should have demanded more, asked for proof of some kind but the protective energy that radiated from Bucky's body encircled her and wrapped her in comfort and peace.
While she was pregnant, Bucky waited on her hand and foot. He rarely left her side for more than a day or two long mission. He made sure she felt safe everywhere they went, even in public. Bucky found Rumlow deep in the recesses of an abandoned Hydra facility and killed him, quiet unceremoniously. When he told Amy that he killed Brock, the memories of everything that he had done to her rushed into her memory, and sent her into an early labor...two months early.
