(Warning: Bullying)
As Ianthe rushed out of the restaurant she couldn't help a wide smile as she walked down the street, waving to a few elderly people who were sitting on their porch each day at this time. She may not know them, but it has kinda turned into their little routine every morning to wave at each other as she walked. She'd sigh quietly looking around, wondering what to do now. Suddenly she'd hear a bunch of yelling in the distance, so she shrugged her shoulders and decided to investigate. There stood three kids looking weirdly at a boy who was standing still, looking rather upset. Ianthe figured that there was probably a fight going on and tried not to pay too much attention.
"Why don't you say anything freak? You have weird eyes like that other freaky girl. Are you two related? Are you guys dating..?" One of the kids would say, waiting for a response. Ianthe's interest would peak at the mention of 'weird eyes' so she decided to get a little closer.
"Answer me you idiot. Don't you know how to talk?" The kid would shove the boy slightly, making him move slightly back.
"Where's your parents, huh?" The boy seemed to tense up at the mention of parents. Ianthe figured she should probably butt in, she felt kinda bad for the boy, especially since he seemed kinda in the same boat as her.
"Hey, why don't you leave him alone? What's up with you guys and bullying?" She'd say, walking over. The boy seemed to jump at the new voice, the three bullies only turned and looked at her boredly.
"Why? Do you like him or something?" The kid would cross his arms.
"No, but I'd like you guys to knock it off or else." She'd say a bit annoyedly.
"Oooh...! She's gonna go running to her 'mommy'..!" One of the kids would use air quotes. She'd clench her fist for a moment before walking over to the boy and grabbing his shirt sleeve before practically pulling him away to somewhere away from the bullies. He didn't fight back or anything, but tensed up slightly when the bullies kept calling after them.
Ianthe would sigh quietly once she got away from the bullies and stopped before turning to look at the boy, he looked fairly angry.
"Hi, I'm Ianthe... Sorry about those guys.. They're pretty mean to people." She'd hold her hand out for him to shake. He just merely looked at her hand before looking at her wondering if he should trust her. He seemed to study her expression before taking her hand and muttering.
"I'm Derek..." She'd grin lightly before quickly studying his features. He had fairly tanned skin, short dark brown hair that was shaved at the sides, he was a few inches taller than her, had a dirty white tanktop on, caki shorts, and then she saw his eyes. They were rather peculiar, they where a rather bright yellow, in her opinion they looked like gold. She wondered if maybe he was like her.
"Uh.. Sorry if it's rude but.. why are you wearing those.. goggles?" He'd say. She guessed he was probably studying her features as well.
"Oh.. Uh, it's not rude.. But I guess 'cause my eyes are fairly different too." What she said seemed to have made him curious.
"Why do you wear your goggles though?" Derek would ask.
"Uhm... I'd prefer not to say right now.." She'd laugh quietly. He'd nod in understanding before glancing around for a quick moment.
"I guess... thanks.. You didn't really have to help me though.." He'd say.
"Oh, you're welcome and it's fine. Uhm... well it's getting pretty close to noon.. I gotta go eat lunch with my mom..." Derek seemed to look a bit troubled at the mention of her mom wich made her a little curious.
"Are you.. okay?" Ianthe would ask.
"..Yeah.. I guess..." He'd mutter quietly.
"Do.. you not have.. parents either..?" She'd almost whisper, guessing it was probably a touchy subject since when the kids earlier mentioned something like it and he seemed to get angry. He shrugged and almost glared at her for a moment.
"Oh.. Do you maybe wanna eat lunch with us? She wouldn't mind, she said friends are always welcome." Derek looked at her a little weird.
"Isn't that a little... Too soon? You only just met me..." He'd say, earning a shrug from Ianthe.
"On the way there we could get to know each other better, anyways I'm not gonna let someone starve or be alone.."
"You're way too nice." He'd say, grinning slightly as they started walking.
"I know." She'd say earning a quiet chuckle from him.
