With you, I'm alive
Like all the missing pieces of my heart, they finally collide
So stop time right here in the moonlight
'Cause I don't ever wanna close my eyes

Jungkook was at a loss. He was an utter mess – his thoughts scattering as a flower scattering seeds in a strong wind hoping that they will find soil and grow well. He needed to teach his rain how to retread to the pathways of happy memories and even as he searched his brain, the happy images were replaced by flashings of battered and bruised body parts of his beloved. He needed his brain to switch on its higher powers and take command of his frayed nerves.

The maze that was his thoughts presented questions to answers that he did not have and even as he sat curled up in a corner his face buried in Jin’s chest as the doctors worked on Jimin through what felt like the nth time of a cardiac arrest, he could answer not one of those swirling questions. He had never felt so helpless in his life like he felt right now. If he could take his place he could.

When everything slowed down and the room began silent again, he took the seat beside the bed and took his hand in his. The fragile warm hand he loved to hold now cold and pale. He cried. His heart broke and broke all over again. Why wasn’t he here to protect him? “The broken rib was putting a bit of pressure on his lung,” the doctor had said and put a comforting arm on his shoulder before he walked out of the room.

He brushed a stray hair of Jimin’s face a placed a tender kiss on his forehead before he sighed and lay his head down. He missed his voice his teasing remarks and the engulfing hugs that smelled like rain and felt like home. Without thinking, he pulled his phone out and played the last voice note Jimin had sent him:

Voice Note: Today was crazy. I am just going to get some Chicken Lo Mein at our favourite Chinese place down the street and have it while I work. I met Jin over lunch as he said to tell you to stop being a brat and respond to his messages. Sigh, I wish you were here. I miss your cuddles. Pass my regards and love to your dad. Have a great day! Kisses!

He hit the replay button at the end of the message and smiled through the tears as he hoped that he would be able to look into the loving eyes of his beloved soon enough. He did not know how long he sat there staring off into space or how many times he played the same message over and over. The hand on is shoulder pulled him out of his thoughts back into the present. He jumped a little as he had not heard the person walk in.

Jungkook stared into the sad eyes of his friend and watched as he moved his lips not registering what he was saying to him.

“I am sorry I scared you, but I think you would want to hear what the cops have to say,” Hobi said as he rubbed a soothing hand over Jungkook’s back.

“Mnnh… What did you say?” he asked after the realization that he wasn’t really paying attention to him.

“The cops are here,” he said.

“The cops? Why?” he asked in confusion.

“Yes, we have been trying to find out what really happened and how Jimin got attacked. I understand this is all too confusing but the cops found something. I thought you might want to hear this,” he said.

He nodded and before he left the room to follow him, he placed another tender kiss on Jimin’s lips.

He was intrigued.
