"Ugh, ow ow ow.. what the hell?" The young woman's eyes opened, a dull throbbing pain banging in her head. Slowly, she opened her eyes fully and took in her surroundings. Plain white walls, a small dresser with a circular mirror mounted atop. White, mesh curtains doing little to block out the sunlight pouring through.

Finally, she ran her hands over her blanket, baby pink in colour. She pushed herself upwards, her hand moving towards the pitcher of water resting on top of her small side table. She poured herself a glass of water and chugged it down in one go. She picked up her phone and sighed at the 6:15 in the middle. Too early.

Groaning, she held her head and pushed herself off the bed and walked over towards her dresser. Emma gasped at the sight of herself. Huge, dark circles were present on her under eyes. Her thick, black hair all disheveled and a small, black bandaid was placed diagonally between her hairline and her right eyebrow. Band aid?

Then memories of the previous night flew around her brain. She gasped out loud thinking, even hoping all of it was a dream. Without thinking twice, she pulled open her room door and ran out. The sight in front of her made her gasp. She rubbed her eyes once, twice, even thrice to make sure she wasn't still
dreaming.

There, sitting on her couch was none other than Lucifer. Shirtless. Only wearing his slacks from the previous day. Holding a cup of god knows what in his hands. Staring directly at Emma with a grin on his face. Frowning, Emma furiously walked over to him.

"Feeling all right love?" He said with a the grin still playing on his face.

"What?" She asked, fingering the black tape stuck to her forehead.

"You has quite the nasty fall last night. Took me but a second to figure out where your room was. Of course I couldn't just leave you bleeding out there."

"Bleeding? Oh I could've died!"

"What? No, that's ridiculous!"

Emma rolled her eyes before squinting at him. Out of the blue, a piercing howl like scream left her throat. Lucifer's eyes widened in alarm. As he took a step closer to Emma, she screeched even louder and took a step back.

"What's the matter with you screaming like that woman?"

"So everything that happened.. not a dream.. what the hell! Get out of here!"

"Um calm down. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not leaving until I can make sure that you don't end up ruining the balance even more."

"What balance!?"

"Were you even listening last night!" Lucifer rolled his eyes and sat back down. "I told you, there is a balance, a list filled with inevitable deaths. It's how fate is. You're ruining it by somehow miraculously jumping into situations and halting it."

Emma tilted her head in confusion, slowly taking a few steps forward before plopping down on the ground in front of her. "I see a fault in your story. If death is inevitable, then all those people that are destined to die.. wouldn't death just come for them some other way soon after?"

Lucifer shook his head and looked away. "Things don't work the way you mortals seem to think they work. Death can't just go for whoever they please. For each mortal, the way and place they die is written into stone.. but then when the mortal miraculously escapes that scenario, his path has to be rewritten.

"When my reapers get their respective lists, they make sure they're at the place at the time they have to be to transport the mortal to the underworld. However when the mortal escapes that scenario, his name disappears off the list too. Because everything happens at the time it's meant to. When the time passes, the event simultaneously does too.

"If you'd just done that life saving thing for one person it would've been ok. However, you've gone out of your way to move hundreds from their destined death. It can't go on like that. Imagine how severe the situation was that the reapers asked for my assistance in calming you down."

Emma gasped at the end of Lucifer's speech. "So you're telling me that when I notice someone in danger.. I just let them be!? How is that of any sense!"

"I'm sorry Emmaline, but that's just how it is. When time comes, the souls have to depart. You can't be a hero all the time sweetie." That very second, Lucifer's arm moved too far and the coffee in his cup sloshed out and straight onto his arm.

Before Lucifer could even finish muttering his string of profanities, Emma was kneeling in front of him with a tube of ointment in her hands. "I accidentally burn myself quite a lot. Part of the reason why I carry this lil tube everywhere." She said with a faint laugh.

Lucifer however stared deeply at her. He noticed her eyes filled with compassion and worry. He didn't have the heart to tell her that there is absolutely nothing to exist that has the power to burn the devil himself.

He watched as her fingers delicately applied the soothing cream onto his arm. He was so lost in the way he felt so amazingly at peace due to her touch that he did not notice her wide eyes now staring at his face. It was only when she spoke that his daze was finally broken.

"You've.. you've healed already? Oh I'm so stupid. That didn't even burn at all did it. Lucifer?" Her hand smacked her forehead as she leaned back and laughed. He watched her laugh with wonder. What a beautiful sound. He'd never say it out loud, but the night before was spent with dreams of a certain grey eyed , black haired girl smiling at him in a cafe.

And one thing that she herself wouldn't admit either was that her dreams were occupied by a red eyed black haired man shivering at the sound of her voice.

"Cancel it. The next few days I am to be around you twenty four seven. To make sure you stay true to your word about 'minding your own business'"

"But Lucifer! You can't do that! I promised my friend that I'd hang out with him today!"

"Him?"

"What?"

"Nothing come on you're late for work." That was the last thing Lucifer said as he grabbed her hand and dragged her outside her apartment building.

"Hey, I've got to go that way." Emma said, halting ad she pointed leftwards.

"But you don't have a car no?" Emma simply shook her head at the question asked. "In that case, you have to go that way." Lucifer said, pointing into the opposite right wards direction.

"Huh?" Lucifer didn't reply, he simply took a hold of her hand again and dragged her. "Where are you taking me Lucifer, I can't get late again! Agatha will surely kill me."

"Kill you?"

"It's an expression!"

"Oh.. well here we are." Emma blinked at the sight in front of her. Then she looked back at Lucifer. He rolled his eyes and sat on the jet black bike. "Hop on."

"No."

"You're going to be late if you go walking. Just get on."

"You came from another dimension. How do you have a bike?"

"Just because I don't live among you people permanently doesn't mean I don't have accommodations here. Now are you getting on? You're the one who's getting late for work."

Rolling her eyes and sighing out loud, Emma moved to get on the bike with a small smile on her face. Without warning, Lucifer started the bike, revving it's engine. Emma squealed as her arms went around his stomach. Her breath hitched in her throat at the feel of his abs under his black t shirt.

Unconsciously, her hands started moving up and down and all around his stomach. She felt him stiffen up, but that made her smile grow. He sighed and shook his head. The next second, the bike jerked forward causing Emma to squeal and quickly tighten her hold on Lucifer. She kept her head on his shoulder, enjoying the feeling of his leather jacket under her cheek.
