Pain Is My Love Language

Time is supposed to heal old wounds, right?

Alexander POV: 

Its been 9 years since the fight between Millie and Gabriel, and I had thought it would blow over, but nope. Millie is dead set on treating Gabriel like the devil he wants her to believe, all while Gabriel is hurt and suffering from each bitter interaction. 

Both of them are now 21, and Millie graduated with a bachelor's in Computer Science from Oxford, and while there, met a young man named Luca, and is now part of the regular faces at Hellsing. Luca is kept in the dark about everything, and for him to be a blond with blue eyes, and a build like my own, I felt like she was compensating for the fact that the exact opposite of Gabe, who grew into a twin of Vlad when he was human, was Luca. 

Millie also became a part time hunter for Hellsing. She mostly worked with the other IT techs and kept Hellsing's Internet and such secure and protected from hackers. Gabe became a hunter, like his father, and with his uncanny resemblance to Vlad, it made it hard to keep the women, and some men, off him when we were out on missions. He's a little bit of a flagrant tramp, but I knew the men and women were a distraction from Millie. 

Today was a normal day, and Luca was hanging out with Gabe and Millie in the library. Luca and Gabe had a mutual hatred for each other, and a mutual love for Millie, so they played civil. Millie was working on a case with Gabe, while Luca read up on his homework, going for a masters in Psychology.  I was working on the case with the kids, and I could feel the shadows moving from Gabe's irritation. 

" Gabriel, are you in need of a walk?" 

" I think so, Uncle." 

" Come on, I'll walk with you. Millie, you can handle this yourself, yes?" 

" Of course, Daddy. I got this." 

We left the library, and I warped us outside.  

" Gabe, when are you going to man up and admit to yourself you love her?" 

" I know I do! I am an idiot and a fool and-" He lets out a roar of rage, sitting down onto the grass in a heap. 

" I'm sure it's never too late to be honest with someone." 

" I can't! She'll call me a liar, say I'm too late, and that I was an idiot for pushing her away. I want her to be mine forever, but I don't want her to feel obligated to do anything she doesn't want." 

" You mean the bite? Your mother plans on taking the bite here soon. She's giving you control over Hellsing, once she believes you can handle it. Why not start with the woman you love by your side?" 

" She's your daughter, why are you wanting me to be with her?" 

" Because I know you, and I know with you she'll be safe. I'm getting old, and I need to know when I go that she'll be safe. Allison passed on last year, and I know it's taken a tole on everyone, especially on Millie." 

" I know, I was the one to find her, remember? She was so out of it, she thought I was dad. Her vision really went to the shitter, as did everything else." 

" She was old, older than me. It was only a matter of time before Hades collected on our bargain." 

" Dad told me about that." 

" So please, get up, dust yourself off, and get Millie back. I hate seeing her so miserable,  and I hate Luca even more." 

" Oh? Why?" 

" Boy makes me uneasy. Drive him off, then do what you can." 

He had a chuckle, and we went back inside, only to hear the two lovebirds in question arguing. 

" I don't care if you do know him, I'm asking you to move out of here and live with me, Mills!" 

" And for the last time Luca, my family and job are here! I am not moving out just so I have to commute to work!" 

We remained silent, and watched from the doorway.

" It's because of that damn Gabe you won't leave, isn't it?!" 

" Gabe has nothing to do with this! You are just deflecting and making excuses now." 

" Listen, I see the way he looks at you when you aren't paying attention. I know he loves you like I do!" 

" No, because if you actually loved me, you'd understand why I can't leave here!" 

" Can't or won't, Millie?!" 

" Won't, because I love my family and job far more than I do you! You are a replaceable factor in my life, they are not! I swear, you are such a jealous, pompous ass! I don't know why I even bothered trying to date you!"

" Because at one point, we loved each other! I love you, Millie, but I will not have that creep fucking looming over us at every damn turn!" 

" Call him a creep again, I dare you." 

" I'm just calling it like I see it, Mills." 

" And I'm calling you a spoiled daddys boy-"

Before I could register it, Gabe had moved in, pushed Millie onto the couch, and caught the entire force behind the slap meant for her. Luca looked at Gabe in fear, and with good reason, because Gabe was growling, his eyes red like his father's. 

" You have ten seconds to pack up your shit and leave, or I'm going to eat you. No one ever hurts my Millie. No get's to lay a hand on her. I ever see you again, I'll make sure you go missing. Now, scram, you little parasite." 

Luca moved with haste, and was out the front door before I was able to get a word in. 

" Gabe, you protected me. Why-" 

" Millie, if you have to ask why, then you really are still that same foolish 16 year old. I did it because I love you, you should know that by now." 

" You don't love me. You barely tolerate my exsistance." 

Gabe looked hurt, turned around, and faced her, showing her the hurt. 

" Millie Jean, I am no liar, so why would I start now? I have loved you for years now, and I never once wanted to push you away like I did, but I did it to hopefully protect you and keep you from getting hurt. Little did I realize that no one would be able to protect you like I can, to know you like I do, to love you like I do. Millie, please, let me prove it. I have several years to make up for it, and I want to do so starting now, if you'll let me." 

" Gabriel Arthur Hellsing, you are both the smartest, and yet, most idiotic vampire prince I have ever had the pleasant misfortune of knowing." 

" So, is that a yes?" 

" Of course you fool. You get one chance, mess it up, you are SOL. Got it?" 

" Yes Ma'am." 

I left the kids to be by themselves, grinning like a idiot that they finally did what us parents always knew would happen. I went outside to where I had Allison buried on the property, her gravestone being an angel with one half being a demon, the stone being carved black and white marble. 

" Hello, love. You'd be so proud of the kids. They finally did what we knew to be inevitable. I can feel myself getting closer to you. I hope to join you, wherever you may be, so we can both smile down on our daughter. Hard to think that our first meeting was as ugly as it was, and how it ended with something so beautiful. I best go inside and make sure the kids behave. I'll see you soon, love. I promise." 

With a final kiss the her gravestone, I went inside to my family, and let myself feel absolutely blissful.
