BANDIT
Bandit rubs her temples as she sits in the second floor common area with her friends. She listens to them go back and forth about Faith's death, grilling Ephraim on why he didn't use powers to stop her from falling. Ephraim barely fights back. He's been sitting on the floor in front of the fire with a blank stare on his face. He's only grunted or nodded in agreement. There's only a few more days left of school before the Yule break begins. Most of the students are staying here at the academy for the holiday, where professors have organized activities for the ones that aren't returning to their families. But even with classes still in progress, students have already been leaving.
"Quit asking him what he didn't do." Bandit defends him. "I'm sure you all would've been in just as much shock as he is if you were in his shoes."
"Bandit's right." Bo says defensively from next to his sister. "It's time to start asking yourself why none of you did anything the whole time Faith was here. Maybe then she wouldn't have wanted to kill herself--"
"That's not the reason she went." Ephraim cuts him off but doesn't take his eyes off the fire. "She thought that dying would give her a greater chance to get into Hell, versus what Prudence had in store for her."
"Prudence is a bitch." Scarlet states loudly from her leather chair, her elbows rested on the chair's arms.
"Well damn." Riley murmurs.
"There is something weird going." Scarlet shakes her head at whatever thoughts are buzzing through her mind. She lowers her voice. "There's a trap door in her office leading to the basement. And there's some door in there and a beast of some kind is locked behind it."
"How do you know all this?" Ephraim finally looks interested as he looks at her over his shoulder.
"Because Scarlet and I broke into Prudence's office." Minx mumbles from the couch with Riley across from the twins. She's rubbing the back of her neck. "We thought we could do the same spell that made Nina hallucinate the day she was in the woods. We were going to use it on Prudence so she would charm the fake Faith and not the real one."
"That was nice." Bandit says.
The whole Faith thing makes her sad. Judging by the way Bandit looks, some might believe that she has had some suicidal thoughts herself. But she hasn't and she doesn't think she ever will. She's never dealt with anything too earth shattering that would make her want to end her own life. She has no clue what Faith was really going through. Ephraim did the right thing by trying to control her off that window but it wasn't his fault the patch of ice had more strength over her.
"Yeah, but we were too late." Minx looks sad as she sinks further into the couch, the leather squeaking beneath her. "Speaking of Nina, where is she?"
"She's not feeling too well." Riley quickly answers, fiddling with her deck of tarot cards in her lap. "She's uh, not going to classes today."
"Does she have the flu?" Bones wonders.
"She remembered what happened to her." Riley sighs heavily. "I think those kids in the woods helped with it. When we did another spell to improve her memory, she remembered. I only know a little on what she saw but it was scary. Horrifying. I don't even know how she's still functioning-- even if she's just laying in bed."
"Should we talk to her?" Scarlet asks for the rest of them. "Maybe we can bring some food over or something?"
"I'll check in on her after class." Riley glances up at the grandfather clock chiming in the corner. "Speaking of which, we should probably go."
