SCARLET
On Wednesday night, Scarlet soars through the air on her broomstick, flying over the Quarta Luna pond and cemetery. The stars are hidden by dark snow clouds slowly migrating through the sky like snails on a log. The moon is a white glow behind the gray, illuminating just a hint of its presence to keep its mystery alive. The snow has stopped for the night, which is the reason Scarlet and Ephraim thought it would be a good idea to bring Faith out here to ride. Faith hasn't ridden a broom in so long that when she straddled the thing and took off, she flung herself right into a tree the imprint of her body in the snow is still there near the woods.
"Look at me!" Faith exclaims, leaning forward on her broom with her hands wrapped around the neck, flying past the west wing tower of the building. Her brown hair is blowing off her face and her Cheshire smile is so wide Scarlet can see her molars from the cemetery.
"You're doing great!" Ephraim coaches, flying his own broom over the tall trees of the woods. He has a black beanie topped onto his head, pulled over his ears and covering his eyebrows.
"Told you a little broom therapy would work." Scarlet smirks, flying towards her. She doesn't care if she can't exactly feel her nose or the fact that she's pretty sure her fingers have frozen to her broom. She and the other two are having too much fun to come down.
"We should go somewhere." Faith tells them as they all float in the air in front of the school, their brooms bobbing up and down. "Can't we leave the campus just for a little while? I want to see more of Salem."
Ephraim glances at Scarlet. "I don't really think that's a good idea. We could get in trouble."
"But please?" Faith begs. "We'll be back before we know it. Just over that tiny city? I wanna see the lights."
"One quick trip wouldn't hurt." Scarlet shrugs a shoulder. It's not often that she feels guilty for things. Hell, she doesn't even feel all that guilty for killing her parents in the fire she started. But she does feel rather at fault for making sure that Faith is kept in Ms. Carraway's home like a prisoner. That isn't how she should be living. And sure, she might've been a resident of Hell at one point but this is her second chance at life. She just needs to do it right this time around.
"Fine. But we have to make it fast." Ephraim reluctantly agrees.
The three of them take off for the barrier surrounding the school, soaring over it and the abandoned neighborhood guarding the entrance. Scarlet breathes in the cold winter air, gliding towards the city lights in the distance where beams shoot up into the sky, disappearing in the clouds. Faith's entire face lights up as they fly over the lights of businesses and restaurants and malls. She looks like a child on Christmas morning. Scarlet's mouth tugs into a small smile watching her. It's kind of nice knowing that she and Ephraim are the ones bringing her this much joy. Some may say that the girl doesn't deserve it after everything she did in her first life but Scarlet won't hold her breath when it comes to where she will be going once her own life comes to an end. Murdering your own parents in a fire isn't exactly a ticket into Heaven. But if she were to ever be brought back from the dead later on down the road, she would love for two witches like herself and Ephraim to do this kind of stuff for her. Especially now that she knows how much Ms. Carraway's home can feel like jail.
The three witches soar over the rest of Salem as Faith points to different landmarks, telling the other two what used to be there back when she lived here. The bowling alley used to be a factory while the bar down the street used to be an old mill. There was a boarding house where toy store sits by itself and a dress shop were the laundromat is. Scarlet is more than positive that if Faith were to return back to where she came from tonight, she would go happy.
