____________

I came as a strong black woman and so shall I leave.

Let them mark scars on my body like the branches of an oak tree

And let my tears rain and wash this earth away

I won't stop running, running and running until I have no feet to run.

I carried that white man's child inside of me for nine months.

I beaded him a strong healthy son

And still his shameless face threw me back in the fields

And there I stood like the lifeless moon as he took what was also mines.

We will keep praying as women and as a nation.

Let our voices be an earthquake, our anger flow like lava and our bodies becomes the bread they must eat.

For freedom is nearby.

My children will carry my blood and they will not be enslaved

No longer will chains bound us and no longer will the white tell us what to do.

No longer.

One day a black nation will rise and take what belongs to us

Hear my soulful cry and watch as time goes by

The white will be dusted chalk and the black will be a lion steel heart.
