"Are you even hearing yourself!?" I said pacing around the room.
"Yes. And everything I'm saying is true."
"So you know how crazy you sound, saying you're a mafia leader and you want me to be your wife so we can 'lead them together ' to be the best ? That's illegal you know ."
"I prefer ambitious ." He said not even blinking an eye as if this was the most normal thing underneath the sun.
"And what if decline?"
"Well , then we simply have to kill you. You know too much. But I'd much rather you accept. I think you'll find yourself really taking a liking towards me." He said standing up as he put his hands in his pockets.
"So it's death or you ?"
"You make it sound so bad ." He said laughing .
"That's cause it is ! We're talking illegal stuff here ! What do I tell my parents!?"
"That brings us to rule number one. You have to cut all ties with your old life."
"But I don't want to do that !" I yelled growing frustrated that he wasn't understanding that I wanted nothing to do with him.
"Well you've got two choices . Either you do it yourself or we fake your death and have them mourn you for the rest of their lives." His calmness starting to make me agitated by every word that spilled from his mouth.
"You're really making me do this?" I asked painfully while it all started to sink in. There was no way out of this for me. It was do or die...
"Alice, I-" he said trying to reach for me as I pushed him away.
"Hand me a phone. " I said as he pulled one out of his pocket while I started writing the text that meant I'll never be myself again , before showing it to him for approval and then pressing send.
"I know this is hard Alice , but I promise we'll be a better family to you."
"I HAD a good family!" I yelled full blown crying now as he held me . And as much as I wanted to run or hit him , the thought that I just lost my old life forever held me paralysed in his arms.
"It's all to keep you safe. We're going to keep you safe Alice. I promise." He said stroking my hair as I cried until my body gave in for the second time today.
When I woke up again , he was still here, sitting on the couch -doing paperwork- as I watched the two guys clear their throats and then walking out again.
"Hey," he said walking over to me."you feel any better?"
"Define better." I said taking a sip from the glass of water next to me.
"After saying goodbye to everyone?"
"I don't know. How would you feel if a stanger slash psychopath forced you to cut ties with your friends and family FOREVER ?" I said sarcastically , preparing myself for whatever he was going to throw at me next. But instead, he walked over to me and pulled me into his side - making me extremely uncomfortable - as he stroked my hair as if I was a kitten or something.
"I'm here for you. " he said as we sat like that awkwardly for another 10 minutes before he finally let me go.
"Thanks ? I guess." I said straightening my clothes and pulling my hair back.
"Don't mention it. So , what do you want for dinner ? Steak ? Pasta ?"
"How about some Sloppy Joe's ?"
"You could have anything you want , and you pick that ?" He asked surprised as I tried my best not to take offense.
"Well if you must know , Sloppy Joe's is something my mom always made me when I was feeling sad and homesick. So that's what I need right now." I said turning away from him.
"Oh. I didn't realize... I'll get someone on that ." He said as he left so fast I didn't think it was humanly possible. I should've played this card a long time ago. While I waited patiently for someone to comeback - and realizing how foolish that was - I made my way to the bathroom as I started running water in the tub, filling it with some bubble bath that stood on the side. I took a deep breath, taking in the sweet smell of strawberries as the bath started to fill up more.
Striping of my clothes , I get in as I lied back while the warm water washed over me , sending little tingles everywhere it touched. It felt like it's been such a long time since I relaxed and cleared my mind like this, and I enjoyed every second of it.
" Looks nice ,mind if I joined you ?" His voice said suddenly appearing next to me with a plate in hand.
"What ? Yes! I do mind you ... you perve ! "I said grabbing a towl starting to cover myself.
"Don't flatter yourself sweetheart , I'm simply just admiring what's mine anyway." He said placing the plate down .
"Look , I already agreed to stay here. I cut all of the ties I had with my old - Very good life - so don't think you're going to get more out of me." I said wrapping myself in the towl and walking back to the bedroom.
"I didn't ask."
"Oh ? So you think that whatever this is- " I said motioning around us "- is somehow going to make me fall for you ? "
"Well, that wasn't what I had in mind , but if the shoe fits." He said trying to move closer as I held my hand out , distancing us.
"Don't come any closer. I'm warning you." I said gripping the towl tighter while taking steps backwards.
"You're warning me ? You have no idea what I'm capable of." He said , whispering close in my ear as I almost lost all control over my senses. "You like this, don't you ?" He continued as I didn't say another word. "I can tell. " he said as I could basically feel him smirking next to me. It was when his hand started traveling down that I snapped back to reality and grabbed his hand.
"DON'T, EVER try to touch me. Got it ?" I said shoving my way past him to get clothes while he blew a wolfy whistle behind me.
