Hermione Granger stood by the window, a glass of champagne in hand as she took a deep breath. An opened letter sat beside her on the desk as she tried her best to ignore it. Still thinking whether she should go or not.
The words burned on her mind, regretting the moment she opened it. Already knowing what was written inside. If the seal on the letter was any indication.
Taking a long drag on her glass, she dared to look at the letter once more.
You are invited to
Draco Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass's wedding on May 4th at Malfoy Manor at 12:30pm.
Hoping to see you,
Draco Malfoy & Astoria Greengrass
Frowning at the simplicity of the invitation. She shook her head and took another drag only to realize that it was already empty. Sighing, she made her way to the kitchen and poured herself another glass. Just as her lips were about to touch the glass, there was a knock on the door.
Looking at the clock, she frowned once more. Knowing that none of her friends were to visit her as they were all busy. Another knock came and she sighed. Walking towards her front door, taking another sip from her glass as she opened the door and almost spitting out the champagne. She painfully swallowed as she looked wide eyed and came face to face with the person she least expected.
Draco Malfoy.
The same boy who taunted her, called her names - Mudblood - the same boy she punched in third year. The same boy who watched her with fear in his eyes and terror etched on his face, while she was being tortured by his crazed aunt. The same boy whom she forgave when he apologised after the war ended. The same boy she became friends and fell in love with.
No, he wasn't a boy anymore. He was man. A man who took responsibility for his actions. A man who went out of his way to help in any way he can. Doing his best to redeem himself while helping out with others in times of need. He was a coward. A bloody coward but Merlin help her, she could have spent the rest of her life with him, if it had not been for his parents. In particular, Lucius Malfoy.
She remembered when Draco introduced her to his parents as his girlfriend. She was glad that he didn't force her in the manor, knowing what had happened to her before. She got along with Narcissa but Lucius was another story.
He had lashed out at his son. Calling him names while Draco stood there, hands clenched into fists. He was called a disgrace to the Malfoy name because he was sullying himself with a Mudblood. Narcissa had tried her hardest to stop Lucius from saying anything more that could damaged her family further while apologising to Hermione profusely. It was clear that she loved her son, it didn't matter if she wasn't a Pureblood. All that mattered was Draco's happiness.
She had run away when Draco did nothing to stop her. Lucius was still screaming at his son. Narcissa doing her hardest to stop her family from falling apart. Draco had broke it off with Hermione that night. A week later, his engagement to Astoria Greengrass was all over the Prophet.
Still holding the glass, her hand tightened on the handle as she stared at the man in front of her. His usually well kept blonde hair were disheveled. He wore a white long sleeved shirt and black pants. It looked to be he was getting ready to get married.
But it still did not explain why he was standing in front of her instead of getting ready for his wedding.
"Malfoy," she breathed out. Locking eyes with him. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be getting married in-" she looked at her watch. "-half an hour?"
