Y/n's POV
We were walking out and trying to catch a ride by hitch-hiking because Two-Bit said that the brakes in his car went out. Later on, we were going to see Johnny and Dally. I want to see how they're holding up in the hospital.
We continued to catch a ride until Two-Bit and Ponyboy turned around and started to speed walk. Ponyboy held my hand so that I wouldn't fall behind. I got confused on why we were speed walking. It wasn't until I turned around, and what I saw scared me.
It was the blue Mustang.
We made it to a restaurant and turned around to see them following us. This scared me even more.
"Stay close," Two-Bit told us.
"What do they want?" I asked in a scared tone.
"I don't know. How many guys were in the car?" Two-Bit asked.
"Four or five," Ponyboy answered.
"Come on. Let's hurry up inside," Two-Bit said as we started to make our way to the entrance of the restaurant. We then stopped to see that the blue Mustang parked and the same Socs exiting their car.
"Wait, wait, let's see what they want," Two-Bit told us.
"Why do you want to see what they want?" Ponyboy asked him.
"Just stay here. Y/n, get behind us," Two-Bit told us.
As I got behind both Two-Bit and Ponyboy, I saw the Socs walking closer to us. That scared me even more.
"No jabs before the rumble. You know the rules, ape face," Two-Bit told Randy.
"We know. I wanna talk to you and the little greaser," Randy said as he pointed to Ponyboy and mentioned me. I then came out from behind them with a scared look on my face.
"You two go ahead. I'll keep my eye on him," Two-Bit told us. Ponyboy then grabbed my hand and we started to walk to their car.
We then stopped next to the blue Mustang and then Randy started talking with us.
"I read about you guys in the paper. How come?" Randy asked us. I didn't really feel like talking right now. I don't usually feel comfortable talking to a Soc that could kill us. So I let Ponyboy do all the talking.
"I don't know. We felt like playing the superhero," Ponyboy said.
"I wouldn't have," Randy said.
"You wouldn't have what?" Pony asked him.
"I would have let those kids burn to death," Randy replied.
"You might not have. You might have done the same thing," Ponyboy told him.
"I don't know. I just don't know anything anymore, I guess. I just never would have believed some Greasers would pull something like that," Randy told us.
"A Greaser didn't have nothing to do with it," Ponyboy snapped at him. In the background, I could hear Two-Bit making fun of the other Socs pants while other Greasers were laughing at his jokes.
"Do you guys want to talk inside?" Randy asked us.
So we went inside the car to continue the talk. Randy sat in the driver's seat while Ponyboy sat in the passenger seat and I sat on Pony's lap.
"I couldn't tell this to anyone else. My, friends, they'd think I was off my rocker or something. you know that friend of yours, the one that got burned, he might die," Randy told us. I literally felt my whole face go pale after what he said.
"Yeah," Ponyboy said.
"And tonight, people will get hurt at the rumble. Maybe even killed, right?" Randy questioned. This caused Ponyboy to nod. "You can't win . You know that, don't you? It doesn't matter if you whip us, you'll still be where you were before--at the bottom. We'll still be the lucky ones at the top with all the breaks. It doesn't matter. Greasers will still be Greasers, and Socs will still be Socs. It doesn't matter," Randy told us. There was a bit of silent until Randy spoke again.
"Anyway, thanks, Greasers," Randy told us.
Wait, did I hear that right? Or did I just imagine that part in my head?
We then started to exit the car until Randy spoke again.
"Hey, I didn't mean that. I meant, thanks, kids," Randy then corrected himself.
Yeah, that's what I thought.
"It's been nice talking to you, Randy. My name's Ponyboy. And this is my sister, Y/n," Ponyboy introduced us as he held out his hand to Randy. They then shook hands and then we exited the car.
As we were walking back to Two-Bit, Randy honked his car to signal to the other Socs that they were leaving. We then stood beside Two-Bit as the Socs headed to their car.
"So what did Mr. Super Soc have to say?" Two-Bit asked us.
"He ain't a Soc. Just a guy that wanted to talk, that's all," Ponyboy said as he walked off and I followed closely behind him.
We were now going to see Dally and Johnny at the hospital. But the one thing that would not leave my head was what Randy said. Will Johnny really die?
"Pony, will Johnny die?" I asked him with curiosity. Ponyboy then looked down at me, not knowing what to say while Two-Bit looked at him, not knowing what's going on.
"I don't know, Y/n. I don't know," Pony said. This made me worried for Johnny. I didn't want him to die.
I leaned my head against Ponyboy as we walked and Pony put his arm around my shoulder as we made our way to the hospital.
