To pose as something I'm not
As a false prophet to my own core
Singing bird songs on how
In a different life
In a different age
I would be thinking
I would feel
Like I could belong
Or have gotten better grades
A better job
Only in this life
In this age
I am a ruffian
Stealing and destroying my own goals
Smashing bottles against sandy beaches
Smoking menthols to edgy punk
Kissing girls to rebel against ideologies set
By older generations
Who's best interest isn't
Whether or not
I go to college
Or buy a house
See the world
Experience happiness
Society is selfish
The only race is one to get ahead of your neighbor
A nicer car
A greener lawn
How many forests can we decimate
For a poorly written book
By the governor
About how the country is fucked
But they won't
Supply the schools with money
To educate on their futures
Or their mental health
Which is how I got here
Homeless in my own home
Empty
In my own brain
