I was awoken by a bright light flashing in my face and a crowd of doctors surrounding me.
"Is she breathing?" The doctor said through his caped mask.
"I feel a pulse, eyes are safe" The other doctor said pulling back my eyelids and flashing a small light in them.
"Mrs. Barbana, if you can hear me, blink twice".
I blinked my eyes twice.
"Alright, she's fine." The doctor said. They all took off their gloves and walked away. I stared at the hovered light until someone pushed it off of me. I looked to my right and saw Christina and Massie. Massie looked so pityful, her eyes watery and a hand to her chest.
"Oh my, Mrs. Barbana are you alright?" She said running up to me, grabbing my hand.
"She can't talk Mass, the doctor says she's still in a state of shock." replied Christina.
"Is she awake yet? I just saw the doctors walk out." I looked to my right and saw Joey walking in the room looking tired as can be.
"Girls, is everything alright?" He said pacing in the room.
"Yeah. She's fine." Christina replied. They caught eyes and then she turned away.
"Maybe I should be getting you guys home, its getting late." He said. Massie looked at Christina and then back to me.
"But what about-"
"I'll bring you guys back tommorow, if you would like" he interrupted.
"Hey, uh.. I'm gonna go now. I see everything is alright? I'm gonna go talk to my lawyer about this bail for Rachel. Damn girl, I told her not to do it! Now look where I am" Benard said peeking his head through the door, furiously eyeing down Joey.
"Don't tell me you are going to bail out someone who practically committed a murder!" Joey said pacing up to Benard.
"YOU GET YOUR HAND OUT MY FACE!" Ben said stepping into the door and pushing Joey's finger out of his face.
"She almost killed her! There's something wrong with her, do you honestly think the best thing to do right now is to bail her out of jail?" Joey screamed.
"That's your damn sister for Jesus sake, that lady over there on the other hand now she, she is a whore! I'm not saying she deserved this but-"
"YOU WERE THERE THE ENTIRE TIME! That was your wife? I don't understand how you let this happen!" Joey screamed.
"You think I wanted this to happen? I'm the one who took her to the fucking hospital, thank me for that!" Ben replied.
"Men, men! Stop this!" said a nurse walking into the room stepping in between them.
"You know what, c'mon girls. Let's go." Joey said eyeing down Ben. He walked out the room and Christina and Massie trailed behind.
"Yeah, yeah. You go! YOU GO!" Ben screamed as they walked away.
"Sir please, please." The nurse said placing her hand on his chest.
I layed there and stared at the ceiling. I honestly had no feelings. I'm alive.
****** Joey's POV *******
"I'm sorry about that girls. I got a little taken away" I said shutting the car door.
"Its alright, we understand. Right Chrissy?" Massie replied.
Christina looked up at the rearview mirror and caught eyes with me. After a few seconds she put her head back down, fumbling with her fingers.
"Yeah" she replied blankly.
"You know that we could still go to lunch together, if you want of course. Maybe tomorrow?" I said, starting the car.
"You know what! That'd be-"
"A bad idea. You said you would take us back to the hospital, not to lunch." Christina interrupted.
"I don't see why-"
"Can we go now?" Christina interrupted again. This time she interrupted me, and it did hurt my feelings a bit. If she only knew how much I loved her. How much I dream about us having a real father-daughter relationship. I knew that would never happen though. Although I wish it could have.
I dropped the girls off back to the facility and headed back to my apartment. Work tommorow so I needed to get some rest, especially after this stressful day.
