chapter twenty-eight

callista went off to find her friend. she found her in the barracks sitting with rose, holding hands and talking in low, loving voices. she began to back out as rose noticed her. "hi! can i help you?" she asked in a sweet voice. her short blonde hair framed her face and her violet eyes pierced into her. callista panicked. "i- uh- um- i was looking for bree, but i can come back later!" she said.

"you, callista, are a dam idiot and a useless gay." she thought to herself. rose smiled. "i'll talk to you later, my love!" she said to bree, kissing her cheek. "later, lovely." bree called.

"who's that?" callista asked in a high-pitched voice, red-faced. "that's my girlfriend rose." bree said wistfully, hugging herself. "what are you doing here?" she asked her friend.

"nico and i came to see you and hazel before school started because school swamps me with work." callista explained, fanning herself. bree smiled. "awe, you're so nice." "thank you." callista said squeakily. "are you okay?" bree asked, concerned. "nO."

the group of demigods hugged one another and talked before nico and callista had to leave. "are you going back to north carolina?" hazel asked callista. she shook her head. "not this year. i'm going to goode. mister blofis said he'd helped me out." callista explained and hazel nodded. "are you transferring to a school in l.a. like piper did?" nico asked bree, and she nodded. hazel had decided she couldn't juggle school and governing the entire roman empire. "nico, are you doing school?" "yeah, i'm going back to college for my second semester." nico said.

school continued like normal. when nico got back, he found that he had a new roommate. his new roommate was a hawaiian girl named miyoko who was studying to be an artist.

nico went to administration to see what had happened to lilac. he felt queasy, remembering what he'd worried about before, if she had thought of death. administration told him that she'd transferred back home to italy. he held himself. his nausea hadn't left him yet.

miyoko smiled at nico and will across their kitchen table. "it's nice to meet you both." she said, looking at her homework. "can you help me with my physics homework?" she asked awkwardly. will nodded happily, beginning to help her.

nico smiled happily at his boyfriend, the most adorable person on the planet. he was so cute. "nico, get a grip." he told himself, looking out the window. miyoko stood to go use the restroom and will took his boyfriend's hands. "i love you."

nico smiled back. "i...love you too." he said and pulled will in, kissing him softly. "you're lovely." will said, holding nico's cheeks. "shut up," nico replied, flustered. "i love you so much!!" he squealed. nico's eyes widened. "you're so embarrassing," he said, kissing his boyfriend again. "you still love me." will said.

nico smiled. "whatever," he said. miyoko stood in the doorway, but walked back to her room as not to interrupt.

percy and annabeth were studying in new rome. bree was studying in a school in los angeles. callista studied at goode with moral support from mister blofis. life was alright.

"frank, do you think everything will be okay now?" hazel asked her boyfriend and political partner. frank sighed. "you know it never is," he said and smiled at her, "but i like this."

hazel fingered her celestial gold necklace nervously. "me too."
